Hello there! I just bought a master kit to my C4. While it is opened up and repaired, it would be easy to add shift kit in it. Are they worth of money? Does it make a difference? Motor will have approx. 300 hp and i think i will put in a about 2500 stall converter. Car is '74 maverick. Thanks!
For 300Hp, a C4 should absolutely have a shift kit installed. In stock form, they are barely adequate for 200Hp.
Thanks for the info. Im going to install that shift kit. Is some brand specially good or are they all ok?
Some are better than others, I've had good results with Trans-Go. Those have three options for amount of shift firmness, you probably don't want to use the race version.
Do you think that this would be ok? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/322571132588 If there is 3 options, id like to be in the middle, i guess...
You may also want to look at your intermediate servo and piston. Performance Automatic makes a nice upgrade.
It's amazing what a difference a servo can make. I installed one in my GMC 700R4 and it was a huge change.
Thanks for the link, greasemonkey. What kind of change are we talking about? Remember, Im new with these things
Basically it's all about how much pressure they apply to the band. The factory used several different ones obviously some better than others. But, the pa best them all.
Better holding power under load and firmer shifts. Mine was in a pickup I towed a horse trailer with and those early 700R4s needed all the help they could get for longevity!
