Doing all the research I can before pulling the trigger but this setup on ebay looks like best bang for the buck

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/87-93-FORD...m=140698596379&_trksid=p2385738.c100677.m4598

With the addition of motor mounts, frame mounts, v8 cross member, and transmission cross member will the above package be a one-stop shop for my 72 i6 auto to make it a v8 5spd >?? (working on the disc brakes and have an 8.8 posi rearend)

    Thanks,
    Double J

You can piece together that combo much cheaper than that. I would look for a local 1996 explorer V8 and buy it. It will have the gt40 head with a roller motor. You can get them for $500-$1000. You will then get the engine and EFI system you need. You can then pull the reared and shorten it to get your 8.8 posi. Sell the rest for $300. A 5 speed can be found for around $300 in good shape. So with all that you are maybe at $1000 and you already have that whole kit. You will still need to find the clutch pedals which are very hard to find. V8 setup will cost around $500 for everything.

William.. well that price sounds way better >> Just not sure I have the ability to piece it all together *successfully..
Still asking around to get others opinions but in the meantime and in between time I will start looking around for a 96 Explorer..
    Thanks man

The '96(&some '95) up vehicles are OBD-II, far more complex computer system than the '93. Some have PATS system(dunno bout Sploders) that must be deprogrammed to allow engine to start.

see.. this is where things get dicey for me and i buy things i cant use or dont need.. sadly this is why i will pay a premium for turnkey style packages.. its also nice to get at least refurbished parts and a warranty>>
anybody here in Colorado that can help with the build ..or know anyone else who does honest work for honest prices?
    thanks

No Explorers but theres a late 70s granada v8 auto for about $1200 .. says engine strong and tranny shifts smooth..could steal the disc brakes too im guessing. seems like a good and inexpensive alternative.. could live with automatic for awhile
    EDIT
Actually found a drivable 96 Explorer for $1295 so maybe I can talk him down..

From the link I posted above.

    96&97 Explorer’s don’t have the “PATS”.

That’s why I suggested installing a 5.0 roller engine with a carburetor, it makes the install MUCH simpler.

Awesome.. so I buy the 96 Explorer and put on a carb.
What all do I need from the Explorer to swap the v8 into my car?

If you’re going to put a Carburetor on it you can buy a 5.0 out of anything mid 80’s up. You’ll only need the block & heads.

    Here’s a picture of the 94 Mustang 5.0 that’s going into my 75 Comet.

I’m sorting out the pulleys & accessories.

I paid $300 for a rolled 94 Bronco with a 5.0. Once I sold what I could and scrapped the rest I made a couple hundred above purchase price. For some sweat equity I had a free 5.0 with roller cam that had 96,000 miles on it. Somewhere in 92/93 from my understanding the trucks went roller cam so look for those as well.

If you can find a '96 Splorer engine a carb would be easiest. The front accessory drive is nasty, I'd look for Mustang or 5.0 T-Bird parts for that. Water pump & front cover unique to Splorers, '94-'95 Mustang & '91-'93 T-Bird/Cougar 5.0.

In any case you'll need a distributor, Explorer used coil packs(fired by computer) and the 4R70W transmission can't shift unless you buy a stand alone controller. The EFI dist really isn't a good choice for carb but could be made to work, '91-'93 T-Bird is just as good a candidate as '94-'95 Stang.

wondering what all i can take off this car to make it worth it.. assuming i can get it for $2600..
will the engine and tranny swap out nice? can i use the brakes or anything else to get value>> or look for something cheaper? thanks

    UPDATE
    just found a v8 from a ford f150 for $400 and a WC T5 from 87 Foxbody for $600 ..
$1600 savings but i know the mustang engine and tranny works and already in the same place , ha ! how much is peace of mind worth?
    Thoughts <>>??

It would be a shame to destroy that `94 Mustang to harvest it's engine and transmission. What do you know about the, I'm assuming, 302 from the F150?
