I found this one from fairly recently.
A guy grabbed a set of heads at the yard and mocked them up on his block.

He doesn't even realize that he doesn't need a special cam or distributor.
Just use the entire top end and computer for the LSx and it'll supply fuel
and fire with out carb or distributor.

This thread brings up an interesting point I haven't heard yet...
They say that Yates, of Ford racing fame, designed the LSx heads for GM!
Interesting link to the SBF right there.

Well, the LSx intake won't work. :(
The cylinder block is offset opposite of the SBF.
Also, the LSx block deck height is 351c, which is really a good thing as the 351c has a 'dry' intake like the LSx, but if you have to make an intake, you might as well use what ever block you like.

Well that sux. I was reading that whole deal on the other forum. Would be very interesting. Just looks like alot of fab work for a manifold. But hey I hope the guy completes it.(y) But like you said if you have to make a manifold I would just go with the LS engine.

Check the last question on the page of this interview...
Something about having adapted LSx heads to a Dart block of SBF design.
There is very little info on it other than the person being interviewed confirmed that they did the conversion.
Apparently the 'mirror image' of the block layouts between the two is the biggest obstacle.

    Edit:
Well it felt like years since the Stangnet discussion...
    Not quite.

Here is something that might interest some of you, Both are Blown. But the Chevy has about 50 cubic inches on the Ford. By the way the Ford has a Mild 306. Now dont get me wrong both are fast but get off the " it cost more to make a FORD go fast". Put a 6-71 on the FORD and be unique.

I had a 331 Chrysler Hemi at one point and thought it might be neat to soup up in my 61 Savoy(Mighty Ugly). It was running and came from an rusty Imperial. I called Arruza and it turns out that Hemi anything is insanely expensive and heavy. The rebuild kit was like $1400 and it was just to return it to stock. Any performance parts were special order not to mention the frame modifications and non existent swap over parts. I was so disappointed that I sold the engine for $100.

A Hemi Comet would be SWEET however.

I don't think any LS1/Ford hybrid of any kind in this discussion is easy, cheap, or a good idea. But it sure is fun to hash out how it might just work. :)

If you can fab up an intake... the ignition system is simple since stand aolne ecms' are available for the carbutated LS combos. My concerne would be valve to piston/cyl wall clearance with the LS heads on a SBF.It wouldnt be cheap but it could be done reasonably priced.

Personally, If I were going to go to the trouble of modding to fit an LSX , I would prefer to go with a 500ci+ 460 based stroker with Dual quads and a 4-speed. Who's mouth wouldnt drop to see that? I think it just might be torque-y enough.:burnout:

I like the idea of any engine swap. Autoedit's viper powered mav is one of the coolest projects i recall. A 4.6 modular motor would pack more visual punch than an LSX... I think LS motors BELONG in a 3rd generation RX7. Its small lightweight sportscar chasis is a lot better suited than a Maverick to make use of a lightweight LSX engine. Plus it looks like it was made with it.

But if you must put an LSX engine in your Mav, Its just gonna be a lot of mods, I hope you are able to do it yourself/ or have a fat check book. I just dont think it is fair to downplay that expense. But this'll get you started...

That car is HOTT. That's gotta scoot.

Is that a bracket set for putting an LS into a Mav?? Awesome! And yeah, I'm hoping to do most -> all of the work myself.
