My car has a 57-59 "big bearing" axle in it...with a few upgrades.

Such a car did not exist from the factory. There were no '69.5 Grabbers. The only rear the '69.5 came with was the 7.25 rear.

    I've got a '68 Mustang 9 inch with a 4.11 gear that was under a '69.5 with a 170 in it. It was a hilariously slow car.

What would be a good price on a '57 Ranchero 9 inch? I know where I can get one. No telling what gear or differential is in it since it was an old drag racer.

I know where I can get a 59 wagon that is preey much complete for $200 but it has been setting on the ground for probaly 20 years. It has a large tree about 2 feet in diameter on each end. Only way I have figured how to get it out is to winch it onto its side. I may go get it one day but I doubt it

do it. the 50s wagons are awesome. mine sat for 30 years and i still plan to fix her. I heard from my auto body teacher it should have a ford 9 inch rear, but who knows what they changed. I can always hope.

    57-up will have the 9".
57-59 will have the narrow 9".
60 T-Birds supposedly have a good 9" as well, but I don't know if that means the 60 Ford has a narrow 9" as well.

57-59 Ford, Wagon, or Ranchero... and you are okay.

that would be cool but this one is way to far gone. It sat on the ground for years and kids busted out all the windows. I had basically thought of getting it to take out the 9 inch but I'm not sure I wanna do all that work

Get a junk 9" and cut the center out and have your tube ends welded to it.
Costs about 200 bux (around here), and when you use your tubes, it comes out stock length. Stock length then allows you to use the stock axles, and the stock tubes leave you the stock brakes. So all you need is a 28 spline chunk, a welding shop, and a junk 9" housing to swipe the center from. Easy 9" that is totally 'stock'.

sorry to bring up an old thread but do you need any certain 9" housing like and early pre 67? or a later one?from a car or truck? from what i understand the 8" axle tubes are smaller but fit inside the 9 inch instead of butting against it. or maybe i'm misunderstanding.

You will also need to relocate the spring pads on a Bronco 9. They have the springs on top and a different spacing.
