Dang no progress again. I did find that my new dash tray was busted on the rt side from shipment. The seller refunded me completely (an ebay deal) without me asking...I was expecting a Fedex claim. Now I'm thinking that I might just cut the back off of it and bond it over where mine was cut out for gauges and speakers...not sure yet, I might just try to get another one.

There is one thing that has come up that really worries me. The plan is to put a Maverick rear end back under my car and remove the 68 Mustang rear end, but Brainsboy recently posted some wonderful pictures of his beautiful Comet's paint and I noticed he also has Ford rally wheels like mine. I guess I am just used to seeing the wider rear track my car has, but a stock rear end with rally wheels looks way too narrow to me....like the wheels are too skinny or sunk up under the car too much. So now I'm weighing out if I actually do want to do the swap which will surely lead me to a wheel change or just leave the Mustang rear end in and just install the correct leafs??? Time will tell. I like my wheels but I think that I won't with a Maverick rear end.

I've probably got an extra good dash tray if you want it. I'm in the process of moving back to WV this month from NJ. My younger brother is coming to WV the first part of July from down in Clarksville. He is stationed at Ft. Campbel. I could send it back down with him. Shoot me a PM if your interested. - Matt

I had posted somewhere here before about my air cleaner shaking really bad at an idle, then I removed it and found the carb was actually shaking. Well while trying to rebuild the carb I found out why...the screws in the carb that hold it to the base are stripped. Someone had even tried to put a different screw in on of the holes. Now I gotta find a carb.

Praise the LORD for the concrete slap. I'm still on the gravel. I'm trying to have a shop built by "next" summer. Way to go, you've got initiative.:burnout:

It's been a while since I have looked at a six banger carb., but you can't just drill the holes out, and tap them, and install larger screws.? Just wandering, I'm always trying to fix what I have.:tiphat:

I don't have any tiny fine thread taps or screws (if they even make them??)....so I said screw it and just ordered a reman. carb. I could have tried to find a buildable core, but my luck is it would be bad too. I got a new Holley reman for $105.00 so I guess but the time you factor in the cost of a kit, a core and a new choke...that ain't so bad. I'm also removing all of this 77 model emissions junk while I'm at it. I ordered an EGR block off plate and I'm removing and plugging several things. Wanna keep it simple like in 1970!

Sorry, hood was sold to another member.....I think I am the only person here who likes a standard hood better than a Grabber hood. :hide:

You WILL be sorry if you install the maverick rear with the styled steel wheels. I had the same setup on my 69.5. Looked like $hit with the mav rear and changed back.

That's gonna be one sweet little driver when you get it done. I'd love to have another two door with a/c for a daily driver, 6 banger or 302, wouldn't matter. I think I'll start looking.:hmmm:

Yep that's what I'm thinking....but have a lot of wheels in reserve, just none I thought would look good on a driver Maverick. So far I guess it will be my nos 14" Cragars (yuck), 15" steel wheels off of a Boss, or skinny and wide Torq Thrusts. Looks like it might be the Torq Thrusts.

Got the carb in yesterday and it looks great. I gotta get my %#$ in gear this weekend if it's not raining.

Here's the carb and armrests I got from Craig

I needed turn signals since my were long gone. I got 2 sets...I hope to make 1 really nice set

Finally here's my EGR block off. A shame it is so nice and can't be seen....but it was cheap

Sounds like a good call on getting a new carb.

Just wanted to add that if you had wanted to take a stab at fixing the threads on the old one, Loctite makes a thread repair kit that works pretty well. It is an epoxy and you thread the bolt into it while wet to restore the threads. You can then thread the bolt back out and the repair will be good for a few uses. It is good for fasteners up to 30 ft-lbs of torque. I would use it after cleaning the carb ... don't know it would hold up soaking in carb cleaner, etc.

Just ... don't use it to reattach a bicycle pedal to the crank. You don't tighten that bolt to 30 ft-lbs, but your leg definitely puts out more than that ...the repair in the aluminum crank arm held great until I actually tried to ride the bike ... :slap:  :D
