Great lookin resto. I am filled w/ envy. I guess it makes a difference when ur in the automotive business. Anyway, Junior has my vote - I wud love to see that car in person.
Is that Mustang crosmember holding the T5? What kind of modification did it need? Looks maybe shortened a little. Looks like it fits nice and has good exhaust clearance.
Yes, It is.. We drilled the tunnel's cross member inserted then welded a 1/2 inch O.D or smaller pipe I don't remember now.. through the cross member and then used a long bolt to go through both c members. The mustang's cross member had to be tweaked a little bit at the ends I hope you understand my writing
had to use the pipe to set the crossmember back farther or just not wide enough mounts on the frame? Or maybe both.
No,no.. the pipe is going inside the Mave's cross member or box frame that goes around the tunnel. It's there to serve like a bushing so the the box frame don't get crushed when tightening the X member.
Ok so see if I get this right. You are mounting the mustang crossmember on the back side of the maverick crossmember mounting box thing. Just using the tube to reinforce the hole that the long bolt will go through. So the only modification was to change the angle on the crossmember ends to meet up with the tubes. Basically moving the mount back the width of the original mount box thing. I see you used the SN95 crossmember, wonder if the Fox crossmember would fit better and not need to be modified on the end. Gonna track one down and give it a shot. Better tha nstarting from scratch with a mount.
It should say the year on the case. It might have like a little clock stamped on it and a number inside like 87. the t5 on the sn95s are about 1 inch longer then the earlier models so that will change the position of the cross member. For example in my car I have a foxbody t5, in that case It was easier to modify the maverick's crossmember.
The 94-95 T5's have longer input shafts and will need to have the correct bell housing. I was told they are 5/8" longer. (Just enough to be a pain ) You will likely have to shorten your drive shaft also.
When playing around in my cousins car we compared the two t5s and his was 3/4 inch longer with the bell housing and the bearing on the back of the crank-shaft is also smaller. so if you have a 94-95 t5 and want to install it on an older engine that bearing will have to be replaced for the new style. and yes, we did shorten the drive shaft.
Well I know it is out of a fox Mustang, just not sure which year. I'm already running an AOD so I don't think I will need to do anything with my driveshaft.
