72 Mercury Comet GT in Germany

Maverick/Comet lower hoses, are specific to these cars. Uppers are the same as Mustangs, you just have to trim them.
I hope your not done with your strut rods...

my front steering and suspension is far from finished, just loosely mounted - so no worries

 

Wow, that's so old I forgot about it....

 

well, it's been two years now since i got the first pictures of my car. that was a friday, and just a week later i was sitting in the plane to sweden to pick it up and drive it home...

the project has come a very long way, and as much as i learned about cars, i also learned about myself. i work as a lawyer and just had been driving my mustang for fun, but not working on it myself. so this was quite a large step, and i can still remember the sleepless night on the ferry on the way back. i discovered that working on such a project was a very good way to get away from the stress in the office. and i also learned what i needed most - patience.

i want to give you all a big thank you - i really enjoy the spirit of this community which has helped tremendously through my project. being several timezones away, i really enjoy getting up in the morning and browsing through the new threads with a fresh cup of coffee. i have yet to see a car community this awesome...

so, back to this weekend's work. i torqued down the frontend to specs, same with the rear axle which i filled with gear oil.
i also took care of the headers. they're in. sort of. passenger side fit in pretty well. driver side needed to be dented - one tube was sitting on the steering box. i guess it needs to be dented in some other places as well so it won't hit. the frame side of the zbar is in, i'll take care of the block side later.

the car is waiting for the passenger fender, the trunk lid and the hood to be (re-)painted, and i'll be off to two weeks canada (BC) next sunday. so it'll be some time till the next update. so enjoy the pics

 

It's been a pleasure seeing you keep at it AND staying around. Don't let the two weeks rest you up and you loose the drive lol.
I think I had to cut a bolt or two for better fit of the headers. Maybe the pitman and upper control.. The thresded ends were sticking out and I just niped them..

while i'm on vacation, i was able to pick up some memorabilia - two hot wheels mavericks!

before anyone thinks i stopped working on my car - i didn't. progress is slow, though.

brake system is filled with dot5 and leak free.
front suspension is greased up.
transmission and rear axle are filled with oil.

hood and scoop are painted. not mounted yet, engine nears completion.




the driver side header is still giving me nightmares, so does the z-bar...

Love the paint color.

One thing I would keep an eye is that air cleaner stud ... looks pretty long. I would hate to see that damage that scoop.

jeff, i'm closely looking at the stud. i'm still not sure whether i can get away with a 4" k&n filter, so this one is loosely sitting so that nothing falls into the carb!
