Isn' that switch something you can get to through the glove box? I can't remember for sure...it's been a long time since I had a Maverick with a Maverick dash in it...
Someone must have stole my glovebox. There's a long hole where it ought to be. Thanks for that info Jeff, but, I believe my AC is gud enough at present w/o taking all the stuff I have in frt of the heater box out. I have my stero reciever located on the hump right in the way of the switch.
On the early box, that switch adjuster pretty much faces the back of the dash. If you got the duct out of the way, I doubt you could look at it. You would probably adjust it by braille at best. It would be very tough. The later unit has the switch in pretty much the same position, but the adjusters face the fan plenum instead, so .... if you disassembled that, you stand a chance at getting to it. Still looks pretty awful. They are tiny ... you can look right at the switch, holding it in your hand, and you won't see them unless you are really looking for them. These switches unbolt from the heater box with a couple of screws, then you have to slide the probe out of where it goes into the evaporator, through a pinhole in the side of the box. Still, this is probably your best bet, if an adjustment is needed.
Well! Im glad u passed along this info. I taped my sw head cuz it appeared to be broke "the plastic case". I wrapped the entire head w/ elec tape. I know Im not taking it out now that u have explained how the adjustment is made. I guess the Ford folks did'nt intend for it to be tinkered w/, except on vry rare occassions. I think where mine is set at now will suffice.
Yeah, it's been a long time since I had a true Maverick dash in my car. I knew the A/C stuff was hard to get at, but I had some crazy memory that the switch was reachable..sounds like it's not!
After viewing some of the pix I took b4 removing the heater box I see something that looks like it was for adjustments, facing the pass compartment. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=72754 Post #1 pix #3 shows the sw b4 I taped it over later in the process. It won't be as difficult to get to as I had visioned. I need to remove my stero reciever pod to get to it. Won't bother it now, will play w/ it nx season - summern abt over now.
Made a lot of progress rebuilding the early box lately. I found a date stamp on the fan motor of April 1970, so that helps pin down the age of that unit.
I have a 72 and the larger/early style box. I rebuilt it 2 yrs ago and was able to adjust the de-icing switch with a micro screw driver and an inspection mirror. It was tedious but worth a small temp drop at the vents. I'm using the R134a expansion block and my charge amount calculated to about 1 lb 8 oz with a large parallel flow condenser and a 92 Nippendenso compressor(from the EFI mark 7 engine). It works great but on very hot and humid days, it could use tinted windows and new door seals. Something noteworthy: the box was warped pretty bad and had air leaks all over the place. The blower motor is positioned so that it draws air in through the heat exchangers instead of forcing it across them(like newer units) so air leaks allow warm air to be pulled in around the evaporator. I used a heat gun to straighten the box and butyl sealer(use sparingly) and foam tape to seal the case. Now I get to do it all over again because the heater core started leaking...
