On my 92 mustang I just want to shoot a simple flat black epoxy on it. The previous owner had already started sanding it down and the clear coat is faded and flaking where they hadnt sanded yet.

The first local shop told me it would be about $160 for a gallon of PPG DP90 and the catalyst. I thought that was kind of high. So Im looking for other options. So far Ive found this at Summit http://www.summitracing.com/search/...ck/Paint-Finish/Flat/Paint-Type/Epoxy-primer/ I can get the gallon of epoxt and the catalyst for $90. Anybody use this stuff before? know of anyplace I should look for a good price?

I'd check around at a few more local places...160 for primer? that just seems high to me i can get a gallon with cat. for around 90-100 at my local shop. and depending on what type i'd like i know there's one that's like 53.99 and come with the cat. Put a few more calls out there and see what you can come up with, I've never purchased any online so i'm not sure how to help you there sorry.

Good price on the DP90. With paints and primers you get what you pay for

$160 after tax is good for DP90? Im going to keep looking around for sure. Id rather do the Summit stuff for $90 then the DP90 for 160. This is just a budget driver and may get it painted for real if I still have it in a couple years.

DP90 is the best you'll ever use. Well worth the money.

Bro......PPG is 1st class paint. Ummm if youre not keepin the car go with summit. Poly is Poly...sort of. Id shoot it with summit, then use a 1 step for the UV protection out here.......if youre not keepin it. If you are gonna keep it go PPG 3 step. PPG aint cheap Ive shot it many times on Idustrial eqpt. (25 years ago) just because my rep. was on the line and the boss wanted something that would last.:)

Bro the paint is still there. Im impressed.

One thing to remember about any epoxy primer, they have no UV additives. They are meant to be top-coated, so you're at the sun's mercy...

how cheap do you want it to be? You can shoot it with Rustoleum Pro Series Flat Black thinned with acetone its like 30 bucks a gallon and looks as good as any flat black car. also check out John Deere Blitz Black, its a cheap and easy flat black that is damn near scratch proof. I myself think that flat black should be cheap, thats part of why its cool, $150 for dp90 then another $60 for a qt of clear plus the flattening agents and the hardners and reducers is too much imo. If i was gonna do a flat black i would use Kirker Hot Rod Black. Kirker is cheap hobbiest paint not top of the line proffesinal but seems really decent, my friend did a car in all kirker and it looked just as good as a ppg paint job and is still holdin up nicely.

I used this with a high build primer and love it. You get what you pay for when it comes to paint!!!

if that's the finish you want, I'd go with the SEM Hot Rod Black kit.

it was just a black primer. i dont know specificly what type of primer it was. the guy who painted said that it would chalk up if it was left out in the sun every day. i kept my car in the shop or my garage. very little time in the sun.
