Will these work? In my head I figure they will. My headers face forward and look identical to this setup.

Now I have a chance to pick up some GT40P heads that have been majorly modified(ported/epoxy work), they are in a car running high 12 all motor(5.0L) in full street trim.

I can pick these up for basically free in a trade, which is right in my budget.

I think my heads are really holding me back right now, and All my budget is going into a newer better turbo. So i cant afford aluminum heads yet...

If the P head plugs exit straight out they should clear my headers right? I'm running the hedman 88400 shorties facing towards the front of the car, instead of the rear.

Like I tell the newbies over on the Ranger swap forums: "only one way to find out for sure" And "sometimes you have to pay to play". In your case, this is going to certainly be true with an application as such.

The head doesn't know if the headers are facing forward or backward. For example, you can take your current heads off, and swap sides, and now the headers are facing forward, and if they are P heads, the plugs are still hitting the headers on one side. The heads are identical.

Now, when you say "face forward", are you talking about the collectors being in front of the engine, toward the radiator?

If so, can you clear it with putting the headers on upside down and forward?

I may be missing the point here, if so let me know.

    I had forgotten about that!

Yes the collectors are facing towards the radiator. They merge into a single pipe that goes to the turbine of the Turbo.

We tried flipping the headers once but the maverick shock towers don't allow it :(

When this setup was in a foxbody we had them upside down. Might have to swap it over again.

Those p heads are nice, even stock. But that spark plug issue is a real doozie. Kinda ruins the heads for many of us.

I went back to regular non-p gt40s just because of the plug issue.

Found a picture of someone running the same headers as in my turbo kit.
    He is running GT40P heads

They clear just fine, so my theory was correct.

thats not a maverick. the maverick shock tower is really close to the front two head ports. there is no room for the 4 header tubes to get by the shock tower like in the pics you have

I've never seen headers facing towards the front. What is the purpose of doing this?

what I have done to fix the header issue is take a steel explorer exhaust manifold, cut the tubes off, then grind it flat so that you will have a 1/2" spacer. It's only needed on the drivers side if the headers are on facing rearward. I have a pic somewhere and when I find it I'll post it up.

I did the same thing, but still a hassle getting to the plugs and burning wires.

Bryant, I think he meant he is running the 88400's backwards...? I also want to see pics of your setup. Sounds interesting. :yup:
