check to see if you are getting 12 volts to the "s" terminal on the solenoid when the key is in the start position.
So maaybe the teeth on the fly wheel are worn. And can that happen literally in a kminute. Starts once. Off. Then doesn't start
No, it means the bendix gear in the starter isn't being kicked into the flywheel so the starter motor itself is spinning without being engaged into the flywheel...I've had them do that and hit the starter motor a few times with a ballpeen hammer then they worked fine
Well ill check my battery, the connections, make sure everything works then I'll mess with the starter motor. Thanks for having this knowledge guys. I really greatly appreciate it
So I'm thinking my problem has to do with the starter or part of it. The battery is good and I cleaned the connections. It didn't start in neutral either.
Starter drives are cheaper to replace than the motor. Take the starter off and have it tested at AZ or some other store that will test it free. I've replaced many starter drives in the past and they're easy to do. I've been a mechanic for over 55 years and turned wrenches on my brothers 1971 Comet which won several drag races.
I had them test it but looking back I'm skeptical. He had trouble hooking it up. I got the car to start ywsterday. I cleaned up the battery's terminals and all the connections. I tapped on the starter. Turned the jkey.it worked a few times. Once I closedthe hood it stopped
