1969 cougar taillights

i got a set of 1969 cougar taillights and was wondering if anybody had some advise for cutting/drilling/installing. and also the taillights have a little tab on the inner side of each "cage" of the light, i think for a connecting center piece, can i just cut that off?

Depends on the finish you want. In my opinion they look best if you swap over a Shelby tail panel.

Those are 64-65 Thunderbird tail lights, not Cougar.

 

The 69 Cougar had a centerpiece that was hinged and covered the gas cap

 

I think there are some cars around here that have them, but I can't remember who? I have a set of 69 Cougar lights that came with a car I bought, I kinda mocked them up, but it wasn't the look I was going for.

 

I have a set of 69 Cougar lights. I was looking at installing the complete set including the flip down door. But didn't care for the look once mocked up. They stuck out way to far

 

Yes, that's what I didn't like.

 

I just thought just the lenses were different between Tbird/shelby and cougar? But the rest was the same, Oh well. I still think the installation information is very relevant.
