looking for part# for3 M structual panel adhesive..im planning on trying it on my cowl panel,,some where in this forum is the subject is covered..cant seem to find it..
Ha, I was putting in a A/C for an engineer that works for 3M yesterday, and we were talking about it. They also make a panel adhesive tape.
3M part number is 8115 is their strongest. Works awesome! I have used it 100 times or more when I was in the body shop full time.
3M is not the only player in the game. Lord Products makes their Fuser line and it is also very good and is what I used on my cowl panel.
But for structural panels? From 3m sheet on their panel adhesive: When you use the panel adhesive to replace the cowl, do you also use it to replace the braces that connect the inner fenders to the cowl? Don't you think those braces are structural? Is the adhesive as strong as the spot welds? I wonder how the adhesive would fare in a collision. Seems like welded panels and braces might be more energy absorbing.
I'm not positive about the 3M but the Fusor is definitley structural. I welded the braces because there's little chance it will cause rust through and leaking into the car where the welds are. Here's the product I used (108B). Guys I know from the body shop have seen the result of severe accidents on panels that they have bonded (cars they fixed before that got into another accident). The 3m product is incredible. Cant remember how many times ive used it. I should have took before and after pics of my mav grill. Rebuilt 3 of the mounts,broken grill pieces etc. Great stuff. Ive leaned on the grill by mistake and ripped the push pins out. The 3m bond hasnt moved at all on the repairs.
No doubt in my mine - welded components are more likely to rust than glued components. NO doubt what-so-ever.

I just finished my cowl panel as well. Used structural adhesive and spot welds and a few heavy duty rivets. If it comes apart, I think the impact would destroy the car.
Fusor has different ones that have different work times like fast, medium and slow. Not sure about the 3M but the fusor is 2 parts and requires a special gun to apply it. It is pretty easy to use but you need alot of clamps.
Its used OEM to bond panels. ITs designed to withstand collisions. Weve had vehicles into the body shop with bonded panels. The bond doesnt move. Its just folds up with the metal. Doesnt come apart.
