I took my drip rail mouldings to work and polished them, I have been wanting to install them badly mostly because it's probably the safest place for them..... I went to the shop this morning and did some cleaning, then I instal the drip rail mouldings..... After that I scuffed the whole insde of the car from firewall to tail light panel with some course scotch brite to get all the loose/semi loose overspray off the floors..... Tomorrow I am going to get the roll bar painted after a little clean-up..... Here it is with the drip rail mouldings on..... Here's what the floor looks like before and after scuffing..... I had it outside to blow all the dust out, so here's a couple pic's out in the sun.....
Frank, the car looks amazing! I tried to remove my drip rail moldings... but I stopped before I did any damage. I could not get them to budge. I may leave that to a professional...
Looks great in the sun! Two questions: What are planning for the floor since you have it scuffed? What did you use and how did you polish the mouldings?
Thank you..... Is'nt it..... Thanks..... They can be tricky to get off sometimes, but it can be really difficult to put back on without denting it up...... I usually use a small block of wood or plastic, I just put it against the inside edge under the drip rail and tap it off with a hammer..... Just start at the front edge and work your way around..... Thanks..... The floor will get the typical insulation/sound deadner such as dynamat, fat mat of peel&seal..... We have a big buffer where I work, so first I wet sanded with 600 then 1500, after that I buffed with course then fine compound sticks from eastwood..... If you wet sand like I did you can also polish with Mothers and a Micro fibre towel, it just takes a little elbow grease, but it work good.....
Oh hell no, I just wanted to get the semi loose stuff off it so the sound deadner will stick to the floor properly..... This morning I painted the roll bar, actually I should say I painted it twice..... I used paint I had sitting on the shelf and it reacted lets just say not good..... So I got it all off, went and got some new paint and painted it again..... I like to use Rustoleum Harrered finsih Black, which actually looks dark gray with the silver vein that's in it..... I brush it on, makes way less of a mess and with the textured finish it looks really good..... Here's what it looks like, you can see the texture it has in the pic's.....
Didn't get much done at all this weekend, went to the NMRA race Sat..... I did go to the shop today, I opened the hole in the tail light panel when the on/off battery power rod goes through so I could get a grommet in there..... I also sanded the tail light panel in preperation for paint(it is going to be satin black)..... That's it for this weekend, no pic's because there was really no reason too.....
I started reading this thread at 8:30 this morning and just now finished. What a hell of a job you have done. I cant wait to see it when its finished... Good luck and keep up the good work!
I got side tracked for a little while..... My father has been wanting to get a convertible for a while, well we stumbled into one even though he wasn't really ready to buy yet..... It's an 86 Mustang LX 5.0/AOD car, got a good deal on it but it is in need of a few things..... It still had all original suspension components on it, so I am doing shocks-struts-rear control arms-axles-axle bearings-lower ball joints-strut bushings-rear brakes-timing chain-engine reseal-trans service-trans mount-trans crossmember bushings-fuel pump and a few other things..... I will get back to my car once this thing is safe and dependable to drive.....
