    What paint did you use for the tailight panel? Car is looking great! Billet Specialties nice choice!

    It's PPG lacquer, it's some mix that has a fine texture..... It is supposed to be a match for the old factory muscle car blacked out panels.....




    No real progress today, went to a swap meet this morning for a rather short time..... Then went to the shop and picked up/cleaned up a little..... About all I did on the car was put the center caps in the front wheels and take a few measurments for a possible change in direction for the power?????

    i love the wheels..ive told myself as long as ive had my car that if i ever change from steel wheels and caps, billet specialties are what im goin with...nice work on the car:bowdown:

    I got out all the rear suspension stuff this morning..... Decided I needed to paint the split mono's before installing them, so I disassembled them - cleaned - sanded and painted them.....

    Well today turned out to be a bit of an adventure, and no really a good one..... First I reassembled my springs and started installing them only to find out that the rear shackel kits I ordered from dearborn classics are not the same ( one is exactly the same as the stock ones and has a nice cadium plating on it, the other has bigger diameter cross pins with different bushings and is not plated )..... Any way I got the driver side sping in place and everthing lined up as it should, but when I got the pass side in place the rear was approx 1" off the outside of the upper mount in the frame rail..... I could get it forced in place but it put an extreme amount of side load on the bushings(remember the front bushings in the with Cal-tracs are solid and do not give)..... What I found is the front spring mounting bolt does not go through the frame straight, but at a slight angle which was causing the spring to br out at the rear(with a stock rubber front spring bushing you probably would hardly notice this, also my original rear shackle bushing were beat up pretty bad on the pass side)..... I needed to do something to straighten the spring, I ended up slotting the hole in the pass side outside mounting tab for the sping eye towards the back of the car approimately .100 thousands which got the spring in line perfectly..... Then I drilled out thick washer to 1/2" and welded it to the outside of the tab to maintain proper alignment.....

    After fixing that and thinking all is well I proceded to test fit the rear..... After getting it bolted in place and putting the axles in, I mocked up the rear tires again..... I found the tire on the driver side to be a bit closer to the front of the fenderwell opening then the pass side was..... After double checking everything I found the the mounting hole for the driver side is approximately 5/16" further forward in the car then the pass side is..... When I say I checked everthing I mean everthing from the front of the car to the rear, It looks like the rear torque boxes are not in the car even..... Just more problems with old cars, nothing has been replaced, wercked or tweaked..... It appears it's just the way the car was built originally and I don't like it even though it probably wouldn't hurt anything in the long run..... I have been mulling over ways to fix this, I'll get it figured out by next week.....

    Here's where I slotted the outer spring eye bracket on the pass side and the reinforced it(not the best looking weld on the reinforcement washer due to the factory coating and it being a very awkard plce to get at, I am sure it will hold fine though).....

    What is the purpose/advantage of the split mono leafs? They are not required when using cal-tracs are they?

    They are not required, but they are designed to enhance the performance of the Cal-tracs.....

    Yes I figured they were designed to work together but I was really interested in why they work better. I already know they're lighter than regular leaf springs.
