Ford traction locks are notoriously weak though. I've broken several over the years, 8" and 9". The side covers break around the ring gear bolts.
Broke two in that area in my 79 f150 4x4 with a automatic, yup the one in my Comet makes me nervious......
I forgot to go back and correct -my trap speed wasn't spectacular but it sure wasn't ~75 MPH. Here are my timeslips from that night. And even better, here are some videos from that night! This was my first run ever, and it wasn't too bad. I let the trans shift a little early, had a burned plug wire, but mostly my problem was traction. I have none. Stock high-geared open diff. But I left the line easy and didn't spin too bad on this one. Every run after this I tried to launch a little more aggressively, and each one sucked just a little bit harder... This one... Pure shame right here. Here you can clearly see the source of my weak times, that stock "peg-leg" rearend. It's got to go. But the worst part is when I staged with my rear wheels. I have no excuse for that, I just sucked.
Unfortunately they weren't mine so I have no control over those settings. However I did just download them from Facebook and re-upload to my Youtube account. So... Videos are fixed.
Once you get the car to hook up it will be a whole different world, it will be like driving an entirely different car, front end will lift and it will lay you back in the seat. I can see the smile on your face now
