What black paint do you use for your engine bay? I have a tried a a couple but I am not happy with the results. Dupli-Color Semi Gloss black - Too shiny VHT Header paint - Too flat I am trying to find something with a very light sheen but not quite flat black.
Unfortunately krylon recently changed their formula. The color is still the same but it's alot thinner now so you need more coats. It lays on nice though.
I know you want rattle can, but if you can at all get with somebody that has spray equipment - SEM Hot Rod Black is the coolest stuff in the world for coverage, durability, and most of all factory sheen. It is a catalyzed 2 part mix and comes in 1 quart kits complete with thinner.
I went from a grease pit to a clean finish by sandblasting the engine bay and then hitting it with $1 cans of walmart flat black. I know you said you dont want flat black but this acts like a satin it has a small shine to it just enough to keep it from being chalky looking the dust in the second picture is from months of setting around in the garage it looks nice and clean when washed I also painted the whole car with it
I picked up 2 new shades tonight: Duplicolor low gloss black de1634 and krylon semi flat. The duplicator was close but a little flatter then I was hoping for, the krylon was perfect and that its what I am using.
You can use any color you like but Ford painted engine bays either body color or semi gloss black... Which depends on year and assembly plant...
