My 73 maverick needs the fuel tank replaced and I was told that a 65-68 mustang tank will work. (same size with little modification). Can anyone give me light on this? I was told by someone on here a while back that they got theirs at CJPony parts for around $124.00 and some change. Fuel tank kit.
I used a 69 mustang tank,I had to move the straps outward to make it work... But they do make a replacement tank for our cars direct bolt in for around $150 bucks...
That is a lot of work to make a Mustang tank fit when you can buy a Maverick tank that fits. All you need is longer strap bolts.
later tank worked for me with no mods...unless you call longer bolts for the straps a mod... ...clearance problems with the rear valance panel...is a myth ...none with the three tanks I have installed on my cars....
I would be curious if anyone has a picture of the two gas tanks side by side? Early Mustang VS early and late model Mavericks.
First pic is the late and early Maverick tank (the new tank is the late model). 3rd pic is early Maverick and the Mustang tank (new tank is the Mustang tank.
Jeff Great pics Thanks. Now the question is where do you pic up the room on the left side for a dual exhaust system. Looking at the pictures it doesn't look like there would be any more room on the left side of the tank.
The sending unit came with my tank. Some where on this forum someone shows how to use a Mustang sending unit.
All of 1970 was the drop in tank. One can tell that the ones pictures are NOT 1970 tanks because of the vent hole located in the top. 1970 tanks did not have this vent.
I meant to say 71-74 tank. Must of fat fingered the number pad on the keyboard or wasn't thinking what I was typing.
I just installed a 65-68 mustang tank in my 73 Maverick recently and with a few mods, it works just fine with no clearance issues. Had to shorten the straps about 2 1/2 inches.
