I know were off topic, but here's another from the local CL. The little Ford about was on our CL also. It's sort of a different breed around here.
I think that would actually look pretty cool. I personally swapped my original tail lamps out with 1971 torino lights, and though the torino is a bigger car, the lamps work well for a Maverick. The 2012 lights are out of the question considering they use LEDs and that a wiring mess, but a pair of 69 Charger lamps would work well on the Maverick's tail panel. Good Luck!

I still haven't completely ruled that out for my Comet due to the fact that it may, might, could look better if it were placed a tad bit higher in combination with a blacked out rear panel. But.. I do admit to being heavily biased since I always loved those lights on my 71' Torino GT and I always thought they would look cool on a Maverick when I finally found one later on in life. Tough to flush all that out of the old memory banks just because it didn't look right on that particular car.
I have to agree with you - placement is wrong. Postioned higher would make all the difference in the world. Like you I am being biased by a previous GT Torino (1970).
I had always wondered what a '72 T bird taillight assembly, (cut WAY down, of course) would look like on a mav. Not the sectioned ones on '73-'76 T-birds, but the long continuous one. It would require separate back up lights in the rear valance, but the shape of the ends are almost exactly the shape of the bump out on the Maverick rear panel, and they are almost 5" tall, so they wouldn't look lost like the Torino honeycomb assembly. The only problem would be that the T-bird tail light assembly sits at an angle, where the Mavs are pretty much straight up and down.
I've lookmed at those too.. but they are HUGE! At the very least they would have to have an inner bulb section taken off both sides. I always wondered what the early Comets Deluxe taillights would look like too. Maybe delete the fuel filler door to make them fit?
I would of raised/lined up bottom honeycomb taillight with bottom of spoiler line but still dont think it'd look right, as tailpanel and tailight are slightly different shape
