1.What are you using for a trans cross member for your t-5 ? can I buy one that doesn't need fabbed or welded ? 2. Dose the original starter still work ? Or do I need to by a new one... 3. Will the drive shaft need a new yoke ? or shortened ?
ive made my own crossmembers but 71gold sells one that works need a different starter usually no need to do anything with the driveshaft.
driveshaft will work fine. if you plan on running some serious power get a custom one made you can use the stock driveshaft measurements as a reference to get a better custom one made. you can either modify your original crossmember or buy one off 71 gold. your gonna need a welder too. i finished mine up recently been pulling holeshots on my street my neighbors hate me
I modified my cross member, the drive shaft is reusable and the starter will be the same out of a fox body
This....If i remember correctly i cut the 2 ends off, flipped them upside down and re-welded....Might've had to elongate the mounting holes a little but it worked perfectly
OK, I'll order a fox starter... The part # on the trans says it was for years 85-90 so a starter from those years will work ? I knew Frank had a cross member kit, I was hoping to buy one that was ready to use without welding.. Oh well I guess I can't have everything...lol
I just thought of another question... What is the angle I need to set the engine and trans at, when making the cross member ? should I match what the angle is now ?
Here is what I did to mine when I put an SROD in. Should work for an AOD or T5 as well. Been holding up well for about 2 1/2 years of daily driving now. It was just pieces of 1" and 2" flat stock I pulled out of the scrap bin at work. Clamped the 1" piece in a vice and used a torch to heat it and put the 2 bends in it. Used a grinder with a cut off wheel to cut the slots in the 2" piece, then buzzed it all together. Anyone should be able to replicate it in a couple of hours with a welder and basic tools.
heres the starter right here... http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/d...=Search_01920_1134009_1338&pt=01920&ppt=C0330 and as far as i know, the angle didnt change on mine...
I'm confused about the flywheel I need... I know I need 28oz external, but for my 74 302 do I need 157 tooth or 164 tooth ? both come up in my search...
I used one of these... http://www.kajunjon.com/flywheel_clutchkits.htm its the third one on the list..only thing is that it uses a ten inch clutch rather than the ten and half like the newer 5.0's
I just found a factory 157 tooth flywheel in the garage, will this work for the t-5 ? It's amazing what you find that you didn't know you had...lol...
