No it's a plain Maverick. I installed the spoiler in the 80s.

Adjust the trunk springs, they really twist the trunk lid, more that I thought they did.

Yes the spring is the cause of this problem... Mine is just like that and I tried a taller bumper on the left side it's better, but I still need to reduce the spring pressure...

I'll check that but it really seems like the weatherstrip is holding it up. The trunk bumper isn't even contacting the quarter. One thing I do know, when I put the spoiler on, the trunk barely stays up. I'm thinking it needs the tension bar adjusted for that if nothing else.

edit. In thinking about this more I think yall are onto it. The rt hinge is the one with all the pressure on it. When the trunk is off, it's the hinge that stays up and has alot of pressure on it. That would explain why I can push it down flush.

I'll tell you one thing, this 4dr Comet I bought is making things a lot easier. Every rusty nut, bolt or anything else I find on my car I just replace it with a part off the Comet. It's like having a parts department full of near NOS parts sitting in my back yard. :thumbs2:

Mine had to be adjusted also when added the spoiler. That is when I noticed my lid standing proud. At one time I thought about fitting one of them latches that pulls down.
Leave that poor Comet alone. Quit yankin it's nuts

Could always undo the trunk tension rod and add a prop rod like Boss 302s I guess.

I wonder if anyone has done a lift mod on their car :hmmm:. A prop would be dangerous or at least troublesom. Your further along than I am so if you decided to release the spring to see what gives than it would answer questions. I do feel it is the spring pushing up but not 100% sure on it..

I started cutting the rust out of the aprons.

Cowl appears to be in great shape. Going to treat the inside for protection before the fenders go back on.

This is the kind of work I don't like.. There is so much of it.. Makes me wish I could just sand blast the whole car at once inside and out.

    You're making progress (y)

The only problem I encountered repairing rust spots was that I kept finding more rust spots :hmmm:

I think the problem with the rust on these cars were that they were built so cheap. After fixing up a few 60s Mustangs and Fairlanes it seems to me that Mavericks had really poor fitting seams and overlaping bare metal. All of the cowl seam sealer had let go years ago and the seams had a good bit of surface rust.

I'm really wanting to get these areas taken care of this week so I can get fenders and hood back on it. I'm debating wheather or not to use POR15 on the bottom of the hood. If nothing else I'm going to pour some in the back of the hood lip. This is the first time I've used POR15 and I like it pretty good. I'm probably going to get some grey for inside the trunk after I gt the quarters patched up.

I agree! I'm dealing with fitting lower rear quarter patch panels right now and there are 3 overlapped layers of steel at some points of the quarters with 3 layers of collected corrosion.

I know that we re-build these thing 100% better than Ford built them in the first place :)

I got all the cowl seams sealed up with black Eastwood body seam sealer tonight. That didn't take long after work, so I got my Hobart Handler 140 out and finally switched it from flux to MIG and gave it a try. I got this for thin sheet metal....and it is sweeeeeeettttt!
