I drilled the mounts and used a nut and bolt. Restricts movement on accel but still gives cushion for vibration.
I thought they were also, try searching for aftermarket mounts on rockauto for a maverick and then a 75 mustang, and see if they are the same part number, if they aren't, I will doubt they are the same, aftermarket companies don't sell the same part with different part numbers. (usually) Duane
Does anyone have pictures of where you drilled and what size of bolt you used. Sounds like an easy modification. I jusy want to make sure therr is clearance for the bolt. It is tough to modify things without having all the pieces and car in one place.
I just recently pinned my mounts.I went looking around everywhere for pinned mounts and couldn't find them.I ordered some from carquest and they were regular mounts not pinned.I seen that autokrafters showed their mounts pinned on the catalog so I bought them off them but to my surprise they werent pinned. Rockauto also had them but the unpinned type.So I pinned them myself. After I took off my old mounts I found out that they were the factory pinned mounts but the rubber was completely torn on the drivers side the only thing holding it is the pin. When I tried to install my new modified mounts they wouldn't fit because the carriage bolt that I installed is sitting too high and it interferes with the frame mount so i will need to either make the head of the carriage bolt flush with my motor mount or drill a hole into my frame mount so the head sits in there without getting in the way.I will post pictures in a little to give you an idea.
Heres how I started..I used a 5/16 carriage bolt with a washer washer lock nut and 5/16 hex nut. Heres the round head that I Need to make flush with the mount or drill a whole in my frame mount so it doesn't sit right on the mount
What about a countersunk allen head bolt. Do you think there is enough material in the mount to counter sink a hole and have enough material that the bolt head would not pull through? Or how about dimpling the area in that half of the mount so the head sits lower like the original mounts?
I asked for a countersunk bolt at home depot but they didn't carry them in big sizes and I had already drilled my hole. I am thinking of dimpling the area like the factory pinned mounts
I think i used 3/8 allen bolt in mine because allen bolts are grade 8. I just drilled a hole in my frame mount to clear the head of the allen bolt. Post #125 in my build thread here: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=80855&page=13
That is how I did mine, click on picture on my earlier post. I did grind the bolt head down a little bit. There's enough of metal using a counter sink bit.
fyi not all allens are grade 8. a LOT are grade 5. I had to do this ina 429 car i had as it would just devastate the stock style mounts. Look for grade 8 or class 10.9 or 12 metrics (they seemt to be easier to find around here, anyway). Or, the old standby: http://www.mcmaster.com/#=q1rgjq
Zombie/petrified thread revival. Link? I looked through the latest catalog, but can't find such an item.
