you can mix intake and carb brands. another vote for holley. ive wasted so much time on edelbrock carbs i want some money back from edelbrock.
Yea, x 2! Holleys need no adjusting once they're tuned and set up for the engine. If you're adjusting it, then you've got problems other than the carb causing the "need" to adjust the carb frequently.
My recommendation is an RPM, Weiand Stealth, Ford C9OX, A321, Shelby Cobra, or Edelbrock's old F4B. Topped with a Holley 570 Street Avenger. If you want to forego a 4 bbl intake swap, just replacing the 2 bbl with a Holley 4412 500 cfm 2 bbl will give you 4 bbl performance in a 2 bbl package.
I agree with the 500cfm holley 2bbl.. I had a 66 mustang 302 with a mild cam and long tube tri-y headers, My budget didn't allow me to buy a new intake at the time so I bolted a new 2bbl on my stock intake and WOW!.. I never even considered switching to a 4bbl after driving the car...
It has been my experience that Holleys will start to leak around the bowls because of the way they are made. This is why I went with an Edelbrock. Is there a secret to getting a Holley not to leak?
yep.. and the even cheaper off-branded paper gaskets were worse yet. The newest Teflon coated removable's are very slick.. and a tad of chapstick or wax makes them almost indestructible. I won't go much past a simple generic comment here.. but I would easily concede to the Edelbrock having a better design from a "potential leak" standpoint. But.. it gives up modular design and component flexibility in doing so. Which is exactly why you can buy hot-rodded parts(form AND function).. for every single piece of a Holley. I would say to just find yourself a street version of a Holley 600 with vacuum secondaries, electric choke, and a Ford auto-kickdown bracket. Plenty out there to chose from based on cost and it'll run well with not much more than simple maintenance being required over the long run.
The only leak I ever had on a Holley was when the throttle blade shaft wore out. I've never had Holley gaskets leak. With that said, I currently run a 600 Edelbrock, and it runs great.

They had quality control issues My 750 speed demon was pretty much junk out the box Never cared for a holley..currently on my maverick..600cfm Q jets seem only worth it if you can get a specialist to rebuild/mod/tune like john osbourne has over the years...but he no longer does thiz. Edelbrock afb performer was eh..usualy a stumble no tuning can cure.. holley Holley hands down...runnin a 670 on my 302...might be alil bit big but i can use it on several engines...simple to adjust and when u get it right nothin will run better than a holley..they arent too bad on the price
Seriously if you want a carb out the box consider this http://www.demoncarbs.com/1901.asp you can get it in an all AL body too if you want These have Triple stack Boosters Will have just about the best throttle response over any carb..def any Holley or edelbrock that's for sure to me, Holley is best for a straight up track car, but for street theirs better choices more power isn't everything streetcar will want a tad compromise on power for better throttle response and mpg Which is why Ive always like my Q-jet on my Buick, best all around carb Seriously Google and YouTube reviews on this carb I don't think anyone was disappointed after the swap and all praised it over the carb they swapped out for weather it was Q-jet, Holley, and Edelbrock I plan on swapping out my carbs for both Buick and ford for this
Just be advised that the plastic body in this carb can warp over time as did the ThermoQuad it was based on. ThermoQuads were great performers, but due to the plastic body, they didn't age well. They're virtually extinct today.
