Am I at the mercy of Ebay? Some of the crap that is up for sale right now is deplorable. Broken t-handles, nasty looking things that look like they were fished out from the septic tank.

So, other than paying $200 or so for a clean one, any other ideas?

    I have the Toploader bought.
The shift mechanism is bought, with shift rods.

All I need now is a new throwout and the t-handle, then we swap trans.

    Ideas?

Are you talking about an entire shifter or just the "T" handle?

I see what you mean now - are you dead set on having an old original Ford shifter or wouldn't a new Hurst work much better for you?

will a Hurst bold up to the factory tail shaft controller? I am sorta of purist when it comes to cars. Stock with exceptions but I can make an exception

I have a Hurst V-Gate inline shifter on my top loader and it bolts right up - a Hurst shifter is like a Swiss watch compared to the stock ones

Well you ought to know the shifter with the finger release lockout for reverse wasn't used after '67 or so.. In '68 fingers were changed to a ring and '69 had none at all, there is heavy spring(common to break) in the shifter body that acts as reverse lockout...

AFAIK the '70 & '71 Torino & Stang used Hurst shifters from factory...

Best I can do now is 195 bucks.

Everyone sells handles, and shift mounts with shift rods. but no sticks. So I guess I am at the mercy of Ebay.
I checked on Hemmings, all the TL folks I found find all have everything the but stick itself. I want a pre 67 with the t-bar (finger release) that allows the shifter to go into reverse.

I installed this lever in my 1968 Cougar with T-5 conversion. It came from a 1980's? GM product with automatic. Originally a cable release, I removed the cable and installed a spring under the shift knob, so it still feels functional (it isn't). I think I paid $15 for it at a swap meet 10 years ago. I have no idea what it is originally from.
