I tried the tape thing, but couldnt get it to stay stuck on the rubber, tried plastic and emblem adhesive, and even goop, but the tape still pulled off the rubber, so am gonna do the x-mass tree thing or I do have some plastic rivets that I think might work too.
How could they mess it up ? I think these were originally made for a Mustang .. and they just figured... " close enough" and moved them out ! The Quality Control of Auto Parts has gone down the toilet in the past years and there's not a lot we can do about it but ' Weed Out The Weiners ' ..I've purchased various parts from a lot of different outfits and there are some .... that I would NEVER call again .. and others that are great! Just did the rivet thing and worked perfect. I expect the x-mass tree pushin clip will work just as good. But I had the rivets and the tool so here it is........
The anchor looks ' clean ' and uniform. I have to ask .. why didn't you continue the strip all the way to the Fenders on each side. Just curious . I guess you could always add more later. Cometized (Chip)
Got the rivets from ebay, they arent the top of the line rivets, but for the price they work good, My tool wouldnt "snap" the stud off, so I just cut it off with a side cutter. http://www.ebay.com/itm/231715610108?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT I didnt run the strip to the edge because "this" 75 mav didnt have the full length strip and there wasnt holes there, so I didnt want to add anymore.
These are similar to what I used. Some are hard plastic and some are soft. The soft ones are easier to insert. A little silicone helps too.
That looks nice. The small holes where you removed the original clips indicate just how far off they were. I gave Pony Parts Plus a neutral rating on Ebay for the Dennis Carpenter seal but I realize the problem is with the vendor.
Update: Pony Parts Plus contacted the manufacturer and they claim that they checked their records back to 2005 and had zero complaints on this seal. I replied that they should check out this forum on the numerous problems with this part. Hard to believe that in 11 years no one has complained.
7/25/16. The manufacturer has now acknowledged a problem with clip location and is sending me a new seal. Thanks to Lynn from Pony Parts Plus for pursuing this matter.
Seems people found it easier to remove the clips and reinstall than to complain about clip placement. I spoke with Daniel Carpenter directly about this problem a few days ago and have also sent him a 70-72 cowl lacing for reproduction. I have no idea how long it will take to get the problem corrected on the current 73-77 lacing or when the 70-72 lacing will become available. I will keep you all informed.
