So I've been looking into the cal track system and I'm quite impressed with it. And I think it looks alot nicer than the slapper bar personally. They claim even 7 second quarter mile cars are running with cal tracks today. I was wondering if the standard caltrack suspension system would would standard lyrics with shackles still attached to the back of the frame n leafs? Or would I have to take the shackles out? Thanks.
Rear shackles remain in place...Cal tracks attach to the front spring eye, and bolt to the rail where the spring was bolted originally...Can you use em with stock shackles and springs??? Sure...But...I would recommend new bushings at the very least in the shackles and the front spring eye...If you are making the kind of power that requires cal tracks...I would recommend their spring set up to go with the cal tracks...
My drag car has them, previous owner said they worked great.I`m building it for the trk & hav`nt finished the car yet so I can`t tell you how well they work.I`ve seen them on many drag cars doing a good job at the trk,I believe you should have good luck w/ them once set up properly.
They are without a doubt the best traction device for a leaf spring car. Just make sure you have the pinion angle 3-5 degrees down when installing them. In addition, if you drive on the street, you can back off the load for a better ride. Like said, you will also have to remove the front eye bushings to install the aluminum ones. The only thing I had to change, was to remove the staggered shocks and mount both shocks behind the rear axle. I would only make that change if you are running 10's or faster.
I know this might be an old thread but, what all was involved in going from staggered to behind the axle?
I have a set on my car and am very pleased with them. I don't race very often, but they took about .2 sec off my 60 foot time compared to slapper bars. Lee "THE MAV" Richart
My Comet never had wheel hop even with the stock suspension. The staggered shocks are designed to help eliminate that issue. Cal Tracs are designed to take the suspension out of the traction equation and send most of the torque directly to the tires. Why do you want to remove the staggered shocks? Do you plan on running 10s or quicker?
Only reason I asked is because my 60 ft is garbage. Not spinning, but think it's more a tune issue. Anything to improve would be awesome. Haha
13.3 is quickest with a 2.1 60 ft. I'm guessing it's more in the tune. 302 with c4. 3000 stall converter 4.10 gear. Bogs really hard off line.
