So my car is currently a one-legger. Obviously want a limited slip for more...umm....traction. Is it better to get a new carrier or should I cheap out and get a mini-spool? Rear is 8", by the way.
Check out the Explorer 8.8, 31 spline limited slip, disc brakes and they can be bought complete for around $100. https://thefabricatorseries.com/bui...d-explorer-88-rear-axle-part-1-prelude-and-qa
A 8" & 8.8'' are about as different as two rear ends can be. From the late '60s, Ford has used 6 7/8", 7 1/2", 8", 8.5" 8.7", 8.8', 9" & 9 3/8". This last one is a 9" carrier with larger gear. Same for 8.7" vs 8.5". Plus there were other mfgr rear in HD trucks.
If you don't have some good fabrication skills --- work w/ your 8". If not running big power, manual trans leaving line 5K+ rpm, stick tires - the 8" will serve your purpose.
