Hello Everyone. This weekend I’m removing some of my unneeded emissions equipment. I removed this tin can piece (picture attached) Do I have to block off the lines it connected or bypass the tin can and run a line from the carb to the exposed line on the firewall? Thanks!
That line has to "breathe", if blocked the fuel pump could just quit pumping due to vacuum building up in tank. Occasionally tanks collapse from vacuum. I consider emissions clutter the snake pit of vacuum lines, EGR valve etc. I'd leave the charcoal canister in place. Currently my Comet doesn't have one, but I do have cannister from parts car I'm gonna install.
"That line has to "breathe", if blocked the fuel pump could just quit pumping due to vacuum building up in tank. Occasionally tanks collapse from vacuum." true...but being a "vacuum" line it is sucking dust and dirt from in the engine bay. I think it best to cap line and install a "vented" gas cap. or as I did, install an inline filter at the gas tank.
i actually stuck a breather vent in the end of the line after i pushed it though the old canister bolt hole in the fender well
I dont mind the canister but mine was cracked and looked like hell on top of that. But i agree, the line should be vented if its there, it wont hurt and its a good backup if the fuel cap vent fails. (been there on another car)
I just threaded it into the end of the rubber line. (actually used a smaller one that pictured). I work for the company that makes/sells those to fastenal, msc etc..
Thanks for the input everyone. I didn’t take a picture because I didn’t think I would be reinstalling the piece. Does anyone have a diagram or picture of how to properly connect it?
For like a smog test? It is exempt. Lost my canister cap and carb/air filter screw. I ended up ordering a breather vent cap. I will run it through the fender as suggested. thank you everyone!!
