Hello all. If you've been following the "two round-up" thread then you probably know that there are several of us trying to get a "mega-meet" going out west that is on par with the National Round-up in Kentucky. If this is news to you then I suggest you check out the discussion:

    http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=17388

So far it seems that a large percentage of vehicle owners are located in CA, OR and WA so we're leaning towards having it in a location in the middle of that region. I know it may be far for folks outside that area, but keep in mind that two of us trying to get this going are over 1000 miles from there!

Anyway, we're at the point where we really need to nail down a city so we can move on to the next phases. So far the two top locations are Sacramento, CA or Reno, NV. So, if you live in any of the western states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, CO, NM, NV, AZ, UT) or Canadian provinces (British Colombia or Alberta) please vote on the poll. If you live outside these areas your suggestions are still welcomed but I ask that you please don't vote. If you do not like either of these locations you can vote for "other" and then post your suggestion. Keep in mind we'd all like to have it in our own backyard but we have to realize that no matter where it is there will be folks put out, so we want to pick a "centralized" location. :D

    Thanks,

    Mike

BTW, by voting you are NOT committing yourself to come and you do not have to be a MCCI member to vote or attend this 1st event...events after the 1st may require membership.

Tough choice! I figure that we may get more cars if it was in Saramento but on the other hand Reno is sorta a more central location(Isn't the track altitude up there?). It's about 1005miles(18+hours drive)...and I don't have a trailer or an overdrive(4:10 gears). Still I am planning on this trip although I would prefer July over August...but ethier way I'll do my best to support it!

well, it's almost a 2 day drive for me to either one of those places. i don't know a lot about either of them and i don't know if i can even go so i feel that i'm not really qualified to vote for either of them. no matter where you go someone is going to have a farther drive than others. my going would depend, as i've said before, on my racing schedule and what activities are planned at the event. mostly my racing schedule. :)

Reno during hot august nights show weekend, heard some say that in the beginning it's best to have it as part of an established show/gathering. Summit is nearby, Lake Tahoe, casinos, circus circus for kids. 800 miles +- 100 for me. let's keep the voting "real" not like magazine polls where some voted fifty times to ensure Maverick were the most liked cars.

I think the poll will only allow you to vote once...unless you have multiple user IDs.

I think it is time to give the north western part of the United States a chance to host a meet. It seems like there has been many tries at getting mini-meets together in So-Cal. By what I have heard, they have always been "Mini". I am from Sacramento and I actually voted for Reno, NV. It is more centrally located for everyone. Just my 2 cents.

    Comments.

I have to say I'm against flat and hot and stuck in the city. Sacramento is major sprawl, it's flat, and it's good and hot in the summer. Reno on the other hand is higher, easy to get out of, and not so hot. And the things to do are more concentrated because it's a major play destination but not so big. The scenery is easy to get to and awesome. A drive in the high mountains is not an all day thing. Tahoe is an hour away and it's not hot, in fact if you want to jump in you're going to get down right cool. The Feather river goes right through Reno after dropping out of the Sierras, any trout fishermen? I live in AZ but started life near Sacramento, I'll go there if I have to, but it will feel like I drove 1000 miles to go to Phoenix. And really, Reno and Sac. are pretty close to each other.
A few people have also suggested Vegas, it's truly not much different than Phoenix in the summer, I'd just as soon avoid 115 degrees. And again, nothing really to do outside the strip except hoover dam, which is at the bottom of a suffocating narrow canyon. Nice still air at 115. I'll be going on vacation from AZ for the first time in 4 years, I want cool!!!!!
Also, I'm hoping we include a mav/comet only track day (or maybe some Reno Fords included) in this and I think the odds of getting Fallon on a date we want are much higher. The track there is only used a couple weekends a month, doubt Sacramento is that open.

It's a little over 900 miles for me to drive, (15 hours). But, I'm all for Reno in June or July. August would be a bad choice, with "Hot August Nights"... As mentioned above, need reservations a year in advance for that event...I just need to know by January, the dates. That way I can put in for vacation that week. I could only be there Monday thru Saturday. Have to drive there & back on a Sunday. Work sucks...Lets go people!

Like I was stating in the other thread about Reno. The hotel's & food there is enexpensive and the drinks are free :drink:"when your gambling". I would have to agree with 77MAV302 with Summit being close by in Sparks (y) . They might be open to us holding the meet there. They have a good size parking lot to where we shouldn't disrupt their customers. It's not like we aren't going to bring them business anyways. We could also check with the Reno Hilton. They have a HUGE parking lot. They also have go-karts, movie theater and a shopping mall all at the hotel. Weather wise I know Reno is usually in the mid 90's sometime low 100's if lucky. I know it cools down or at least gets windy at night in Reno. This past year here in Sacramento we have had a mild summer hitting 100+ about 2 weeks out of the summer. But it does cool down at night. My only fear with Reno is, large hotels with your car far from your room in some parking garage at night. Unless we book at a motel instead like Best Western or Motel 6 and we can park next to the rooms. I'd hate to have someones car broken into and their tach be missing. I do like the idea of June as the month. School is usually out the second week of June anyways and what a better way to spend time with the family? Than a road trip.

Once we get a set date and place, I will be contacting the local paper to have them run a add in their Auto section mentioning the meet. They do it for the local car show's and club meetings.

Two more things about Reno. They also have the National Automobile Museum. Also like someone else said earlier. Lake Tahoe is only about a hours drive away. To me that would be a nice cruise to the most beautiful lake in the world. Especailly coming through Emerald Bay down Hwy 89.

Well, I'd love to come. Driving my Maverick from LA would not be a big deal from either location.

However I have one major possible roadblock. I have commitments during most weekends of the summer, won't find out which ones for a few months. (Indycar schedule). The good news is I will have extra long weekends when I am home.

Would it be possible to have this thing in Spring or Fall? Any major reason why it's in the summer? It'd be a whole lot more pleasant driving my Maverick (without AC) 600 miles when it's not desert-like conditions too...

I thought I posted a message here, but maybe this is a new thread. I prefer Sacramento. I see that Reno is catching up.

We aren't to picky but we still think Denver or some place in Colorado would be nicer and cooler.
