I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a clean removal. If it becomes a pain... well... [IMG] :drink:

I wouldn't cut the seal unless you have another one to replace it with. I have removed both the front and rear glass by taking a screwdriver and getting between the seal and headliner and prying the seal down and gently pushing against the glass at the top close to the corners. once the top starts out, just keep peeling the seal back and pushing on the glass. It helps to have an extra hand, but I have done it by myself.

The wire trick is really for late model windshields that are held in with adhesive. Gasket type windshields are really meant to have the gasket cut and the glass basically just lifts right out ... then a new gasket is used for reinstallation ...

Just get a new seal, don't try to reuse the old one.

If you do a vinyl top .. it goes on after the windshield but before the chrome ...

So again I ask you gents, what would be the order to go by? I'm thinking that once I have it all cleaned I should paint. Then what's first, headliner?

Be sure to paint the roof really good before you pu the vinyl top on it. I would personally go with POR-15 or similar to keep the water from ever getting under the paint...

I don't know about POR 15, but I used Rust Bullet in the trunk of Terry's '77 and was very impressed with it.
