The slippage & belt throwing reference was in the Ebay auction someone linked to. Nothing wrong with doing it for looks.
Thanks for the pictures. The main reason, that I asked about anyone using a Gilmer set up, was that I am also looking for something more visual than using a standard V belt set up. Since I'm using a front engine plate, which pushes the water pump out towards the radiator a half an inch, I'll wind up having to use a half inch machined spacer on the crank to put everything back in alignment, no matter what set up I decide on. The alternator, I can move forward with brackets. The "Getto" comment I felt wasn't worth responding to.
Found the other source for Gilmer belt drive set ups... Millerspeed; Hermosa beach,CA; (310) 408-8798 They have a wbsite: millerspeed.com but its under construction so...not alot of info on it yet. They set ups for all sorts of engines/configurations and bracketry as well.
I'd be worried the belt was going to walk itself off one of the pulleys...but maybe not since it's so thick?
The setup I am running has a raised collar on both sides of the alternator pulley that keeps the belt from walking.
Thank you. Hopefully, I can get the Maverick to look like that some day. I'm afraid I have a little work ahead of me.
Sorry to drag up an old thread (well, not really)... Does the hub/bolts of the gilmer water pump pulley sit farther forward than the stock pulley hub/bolts? I only have about 1/2" clearance now between the pulley bolts and my electric fan.
