I'm not sure I understand your motivation on this board... Are you here to help or spread your chaos? This detail is not important to what this guy is asking about. This is why most forums are trash.
I'm here to straighten out the mess you started by telling someone that 351's needed a different bellhousing than a 302. And at this point in time, anything (157 or 164 tooth)can be found behind any 302 or 351. The Mustang II 147 tooth is yet another. It's not likely you'll see one, but the possibility is still there.
The majority of 351ws ae used in heavy applications with 164t flexplates. I'm not saying they can't be found with 157t, but odds are one from the junkyard will be 164. This argument is pointless....
Dang, this forum sure has changed. Sorry for any MIS-information I helped spread. I sure did not intend to do that. clint
If you do, don't throw out the oilpan & pickup tube. That's the one needed for a 351W in a Fox body Stang and also in a V8 Ranger swap using a 351W.
No, it was only pointless to you. You questioned cdeal28078 for making the statement that the 302 and 351's used the same bellhousings, your questioning this was a false statement that needed to be corrected.
Alright folks, lets focus on the question that was asked My 2 cents ... Cooling system upgrade is highly recommended.
Clint, You didn't mislead anyone. The finger pointer needs to point at himself. Any bellhousing flywheel/flexplate combo that will fit a pre-80s 302 will also fit a 351w or 351c. It's that simple. You were dead on.
I need any help I can get at this point please I have a 1976 2dr comet and I have been trying to put in a 351w for about two years and im still stuck. I am about ready to give up I don't know what i am doing wrong. exhaust manifolds are hitting PLEASE ANY HElP
Welcome aboard! :Handshake I suggest doing a search on this board for "shock tower shave" and that will end your problems. It is possible to do it without shaving but very difficult to change plugs without jacking up the engine and you'll have to find the correct combo of manifolds or headers. It's much easier to put a 347 stroker in it for the horsepower unless you just insist on the 351. There are a few guys with the 351's but no way in heck I would do it. Best of luck to you whichever way you go.
