Many a year ago my dad sent both the rear air shock on his 69" Torino through the floor,he just welded the metal back in and then added a 1/4" steel plate on both sides, never happened again even when he had the car run in the low 11's with a big block and 4-spd

No, they are not adjustable, but will give you a good ride, and much better handling. The air shocks have no cushion, and will bounce you around, as well as tear up your car. Get 4 leaf rear springs, and that should put you up a bit. I had them on my car, and they were a bit tall for my taste, but if you want it up, that is the best way to do it.:)

Brings to mind the day my shocks broke through as well. Was running air shocks with too much air and the shocks just beat the crap out of the metal back there. Took it to the local Ford dealer (this was in the early 70's) and they took an exact copy of the inside of the trunk where the shocks mounted (entire area directly under where the rear speakers are mounted) and cut out a piece of 1/4 " steel and welded it in. When they were done it looked factory and never broke again as long as I owned it!

if you want to hike up the ass end a little bit, why not just get adjustable rear shackles? :hmmm: had some on mine when i bought it. just be aware that you will lose a little on the handling side if you jack them up too far.

Maybe I was lucky the 3 years I had my Maverick in the 70's. Monroe air shocks at about 60psi and towed a ski boat for two solid summers. Never a problem. How much do y'all think metal fatigue might be playing a role today? I'm running the same setup on mine now as back then so it's probably a good idea do so some of that plate or tab fabricating stuff being talked about. I've got the steel and welding covered and I'd guess it'll save a Benjamin (or two) over the 4th leaf route. What did the spring work run you guys? (just adding---not a total re-do)

You could also try some different shackels....until you make a spring change.

Just put bigger tires on the back. That's the easiest and cheapest thing to do.
