baddad, That sounds very interesting. If you have any pics or drawing that illustrate what you are describing would be very helpfull. Thanks, RS
I've heard that too, just can't remember which way it is either. I'd have to be holding a gasket to figure it out.
You can look up pics of a Ford head gasket on Summit's website to see what I'm talking about. I went and looked at an old one i had in the shop, looking at the lower front corner of block, there's a portion of the block that's not covered by the head, the gasket when installed correctly, will have this corner covered by the gasket if installed correctly. If it's on backwards, this corner is exposed as the gasket there is notched at the lower rear corner.
We were discussing identifying water pumps and now you are talking about head gaskets. What does a head gasket have to do with the gasket where the pump mounts to the timing cover. Sure have me confussed. RS
because he stated that his car was overheating, it could be pump, head gasket, thermostat, hose. any one or combo of these. only way to know is check them all.
I know this sounds weird but I once saw a water pump with the shaft broken insude the pump. It broke at the impeller the pump turned in the bearing and seemed tight.
They do that yes but they overheat under all conditions. His is overheating on HWY. You have a good bit of info though. Seen a few good techs get mislead and end up with a broken impeller. The newer ones with plastic impellers are prone to it.
