Except on a well tuned and purpose built race car open pipes are just obnoxious. Get some good flowing mufflers and it will be plenty loud.

Just to clarify, did the 302/T5 both come out of the Mustang, or did you hook up a T5 to an older 302. If so, it could be a flywheel imbalance issue.
My plan is to just buy one of the "plug and play" kits from a late model mustang and splice it into my taillight harness.
