I found a 73 cougar/Mustang column. Would that work?
I don't care it is looks right visually, I just want to get this car on the road then worry about cosmetics.
The way I see it is you wouldn't have to swap parts... just take some off the auto column so they don't get in the way.
Can I use an auto column aND take off the shifter parts that I can get to without taking it completely apart. Of course the other option is to fix...

It's the right part. I can stick a screwdriver in where the tongue of the key goes and I can only turn the same amount as when the key is in...
I took out the bolts but it still won't come off. I can pry on it and it will give a little but that's it. Am I supposed to take the little clip...
The cover that my finger is resting on is the one I would like to get off.

If I could get the cover off that the rod goes under to the top of the column I could probably find the problem but I don't know how to get it off.
I have taken that rod out to make sure that wasn't the problem. It still does the same thing.
