we had our last team race in tucson last night. only thing left is the et finals on oct 6-9. all i had to do last night was show up and nobody could catch me. so i'm officially the 2005 sportsman team champion at southwestern international raceway. the day started great. my 2 time runs were 12.533. cooled off when we got to run the first round. i dialed a 12.48. my opponent was 12.49. he ran a 12. 491, but i had a .019 light so i got the win. next round i dialed a 12.45. my opponent was 12.36. he ran a .38, i ran a .48 but i blipped it twice at the finish line. again i got him off the tree. i started to think it might be my night again. got called for the 3rd round and the car wouldn't shift out of park. throttle cable broke on the mega shifter. not enough time to change it. so, my night was over. feels wierd to lose and still be grinning from ear to ear.
Dyno Don JR. Congratulations. Think how the guy who won with you on the sidelines felt, probably a little weird too.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2005 SPORTSMAN TEAM CHAMPION AT SOUTHWESTERN INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY MR. DON GRAHAM!
Great performance Don, it takes a lot of hard work to win points championships!! I would suggest a heavy duty cable from B&M for the shifter or a Cheetah SCS unit - they are almost bulletproof.
Not to take away from your skill but mavericks just seem to when cuz they are better than everything.....but I'm sure it had something to do with you... GOOD JOB!!!!!
Good all around effort. Pisser on the cable failure. More motivation for next season. My tranny betrayed me at a pretty good time. Now with fuel approaching unobtainium status, it's not so painful not running it anymore. Might gawk at it over the winter months and start a new plan of attack as far as upgrades go. Probably will be in the realm of better drivability and safety vs power.
thanks everyone. it still hasn't sunk in yet. got the cable fixed today and washed the car for next weeks radio show in tucson. hey why the heck am i washing it for a radio show, nobody can see it anyway. oh well, maybe they'll feed me at the restaurant for the remote broadcast on racing.
