As all us Inline six owners know, the most popular upgrade (after a v8 swap ;)) is either an upgraded ignition, or mounting a bigger carb. specifically a 2 bbl.

Im in the process of getting my head all ready to go and I had it pulled off and set when my girlfriend comes outside to tell me dinner is ready/ask me what all I'm doing. I briefly explained it to her, and she walks over and picks up the carb spacer plate that before had my vent attached to it (stock). She then asked me why I couldnt just use this ? (meaning for the adaptor plate)

I started to explain to her that it wasnt the size I needed... then stopped. whipped out my phone, and sure enough... ebay has, at this moment, roughly a half dozen of these things. In the upgraded 2 bbl size. For under ten bucks! To make life even better it comes with a built in manifold port :D Ill have to figure out a way to mount it so that I can use that, but even without that, its almost rivaling the cost of just the metal for a homemade one! and the ones i found online were 40$ + shipping

Just thought someone might find this useful :thumbs2:

In Australia we were lucky enough to get a 2v head which had a separate intake manifold(not cast into the head) and as a real treat you could purchase a triple webber manifold that bolts straight up. With a big set of valves you could really make the inline 6 a very stout engine.

Those adapters have been around for years, they don't really work that well

That dog won't hunt. The 2 barrel carb has a 3-3/4" bolt span...the 6 cylinder intake is less than 1-1/2" wide. The spacer will hang off both sides of the log. you need an adapter not a spacer.

I have the adapter from 1bbl to 2bbl on my 200 engine,it was a engine in a parts car i bought a few years back, I drove the car around the yard to make sure the engine and trans were worth keeping ,engine seem to have plenty of peep in it compared to the engine in my other car,big difference. From what I see from pulling the plugs and removing the exhaust manifold,I'm going to covert the distributor from points to electronic and open the exhaust up some.My thoughts are if you change to the 2bbl engine will need a hotter ignition to burn the fuel and do some exhaust work.

You guys say it wont work, but I say I can have things machined (the grinding and such) for free since I'm part of the university motorsports club, and will post a picture once it's done.

Not trying to be a douchecanoe or anything, But I'm 99.9% sure I can make it work. Just not in the form that it comes in.

i bought the 2 to 1 adapter for my 200 in my old 68 falcon. runs a 2bbl weber now. what i did was stuff the intake with rags and bolt the adapter on and then ported the small hole in the log and the adapter at the same time with my die grinder, then radiused all the edges. opened the hole up a LOT, maybe 9/16" larger diameter which equals a LOT of flow (by comparison).
cleaned the debris out, pulled the reags, vacuumed some more.
It was absolute night and day with that car. highly recommend it. will probably go with the autolite like you are attempting with the 250 but that's primarily due to the longer stroke (which equals faster intake velocity at same rpm) and the additional cu inches.

i cant imagine a 1/2 in thick piece of 6061 that's suitable for your needs cant be had for next to nothing, especially if you can machine parts. thats maybe an hour on a bridgeport max. ? and much less on a small cnc mill

    just my .02
