I was browsing through this online catalog for a Mustang 1965-1973 and i was looking for some mirrors that might fit my maverick and was wondering if the 1973 Mustang Mirrors would fit on my 1974 Maverick?

Here's the link http://npd.dirxion.com/Main.asp go to the scroll bar on the left and scroll down to mirrors the ones i'm thinking of are on the 2nd page.

the mirror "stand" which is the piece between the cup and door is usually diffrent between mustangs and mavericks since the door is shaped diffrently

i believe the 71-73 mirrors to be the same. the 74-78 will work just fine, just has a smaller base. you can also use the sport mirrors features on Granada's and Monarch's as the base is the same size but is squared at the front of the base instead of pointed like the Maverick/Mustang mirrors

You need Mustang 2 mirrors... 74-78. These aren't the same, but work.
The earlier ones have different bases... 69-73.

Generally speaking, every car has a different base, to match the contour of the door and keep the top portion level. Most of the tops swap fine.

The Granada ones are not the right angle, not the same as the Mav-Com. Close but off.
Mustang II and Pinto sport mirrors are the right angle but do have smaller bases than the Mav-Com.
I found out the hard way.

I believe the mid 70's Cougars are the same as Granada / Monarch i.e. different base angle and will not fit properly.

The whole issue is that every different body style has it's own unique sport mirror base. The tops are the same for the most part.

I have compared a few early Stang (69-73) in hand, and they are obviously off. The early Torinos are WAY off. I have seen some late 70s full size (LTD, Merc) that look close, but I haven't compared those 'in hand'.

Your best bet is to get used Maverick/Comet units that have damaged top portions. That way you get them cheap... Then transplant good tops off of a cheap donor... From an undesireable model donor, so the cost isn't high and the donor can often be found in a local wrecking yard.
