I got some monte carlo bars, homemade by Ed (fan2488). All they required was a double coat of POR 15 or paint of choice, and install using stock holes and bolts. They really clean up the engine bay a lot and look much better than the stock plate bar. Also, when you grab one and put some weight on it, the entire front end feels much more solid.

    Thank you Ed

Looks really nice! I've been wanting one also.

Hey scooper, what's up with those shock towers? Maybe you have posted before on it, I don't know, but how is it set up? I have a shock tower that isn't looking too good and not quite sure how to fix it or if it's even worth the trouble, although I would like to not have to transfer everything to another body.(again)

Ed, I'd like to get in line for the next set, please! (will pay going rate of course).

Scott (or Ed), can you tell me where to get the hardware?

    Thanks,

you can get the joints at racing stores. I ordered mine from JEGS with 2 day delivery. Easier than driving 60 miles round trip to the closest store.

That is the only hardware. Ed made these so they fit in existing bolt holes. Just remove the existing crossbar, and use the same holes at the back for the mounting plates. Then remove the shock tower cap (3 bolts) put on the plate, replace the cap, using the same bolts. The main bar mounted to the top two bolts that hold on the inner fender brace around the front coil spring. Again, same bolts, same holes.

The only drilling I had to do was resizing the holes that Ed drilled after I got POR 15 in them (which essentially made them smaller so my bolts were too tight, but that was my fault, as I painted them in with the POR).

Blu, I did a 3" notch on both towers last year. There are a couple of long posts where we discussed dimensions, etc. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=18193
    start here on my job.

ST, since the heim joints are pretty much universal joints, you could do it all without any bends in the plates. Ed put two small bends in the plates on the towers, but I don't think they would be needed if you use those joints. It is just one of those "little extra" things that Ed does that makes it look and function better. Furthermore, if you are not running a wierd aftermarket distributor, you could probably do the main bar straight across and miss the stock dizzy. But again, Ed went a little further and put in the bend, so I can use an MSD in the future and clear it.

I just don't know where to get the tubing, or what kind of steel it's supposed to be...

i am using a MSD pro Billet Distributor.. it has a huge cap.. and i am pretty much positive it will not fit the straight bar...

as far as the bends goes... it helps to stiffen the metal as well

but i hear what you mean.. i will concentrate on getting the plates made, as i dont have the tools to do it all at the moment..

i was contimplating doing them out of aluminum ... it wont be as strong.. but might be strong enough, and aluminum is easier to work with

These are the rod ends I got from JEGS, there are left hand and right hand thread, need four of each. I got the 1/2" to go with the setup that Ed made for me.

Scroll down to Heavy Duty Economy for 5.99 each.

Sounds like I could have gotten them cheaper going to the local race shop, only there is no "local" shop close to where I live...

I understand the time crunch (which is what I'm in right now).

I'm to the point where I'm going to get my car aligned and would like to have this work done prior to that.

You have drawings (according to Stmanser)? Would you please post them or PM me?

My brother is in town for a couple of weeks and I'd like to get to the track before he leaves back to Malaysia.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

That really cleans up the look.

I'm guessing this will not fit the later cars with power brakes, Right?
What about if you have tall valve covers?
