I finally got the exhaust put on and got on the road with the new GT40P heads and Hooker 6901s...ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD :bananaman :bananaman :bananaman

It is like a completely different car. Revs really fast, gets up to 5000 SO much faster than it used to. I am literally scared to drive it right now. It has been about 45 minutes since I got home, and my hands are still shaking! Even the first glass of wine isn't helping... :drink:

For all who helped in any way, thank you very, very much. This is by far the fastest car I have ever driven, and I couldn't have done it without the encouragement, and oddly, the discouragement from those who told me that I should do it another way. My Oppositional-Defiant nature, and hard-headedness, coupled with your suggestions to do it an easier or cheaper way, all paid off (y)

Bad news--I heard that my local track is shut down for the winter for upgrades and such. So, I will not be able to get definitive numbers of improvement for a while, unless I trailer it up to Houston Raceway Park.

Finally, for anyone discouraged by the bad rap the GT40Ps have, or the difficulty of installing headers on any car, JUST DO IT!!! It is really amazing how much better these cars run with better exhaust flow. Keep in mind that I am still running the crappy stock 8:1 pistons, and this thing will blow a stock Mustang GT off the road, and my Hemi truck, AND my wife's supercharged Bonneville. There is just no comparison.

I am done ranting for now. Second glass of wine please :drink: :drink:

    Congrats!
It's always nice to enjoy a job well done.
The fact you made it work will make your next mods easier, then easier...
    Good luck

    Congratulations, Scott!

    Perseverance pays. (y)

(I know you'll be extremely careful for the next couple of weeks until you get used to it - I hope).

I will definitely take it easy until I get used to it. It feels like I doubled the HP...which is cool, but kinda scary the first time you put your foot into it. I never expected this project to give me that much gain. I am not complaining, though... :p

Glad to hear you are pleased with the results. :thumbs2:

I like how you always do everything to this car that everyone else tells you not to do. Then to read a post like this when you are done is just priceless. (y)

Scott, are the GT40P Heads & the headers the only mods that you did? Are you running stock cam? Congrats on all the power! Very impressive. Sounds like a job well done.
    Mike:)

I have a little bit bigger cam that I swapped last year. I also put on an old Torker 289 intake this project, that someone had ported very serioulsy. This was replacing a Performer 289 with a 2" open spacer. Other than that, I did a gear swap to 3:80 with a spool last summer. That is about it.

I also put in exhaust cut-outs so I can go open-header at the track. I hear that is good for .3, but I hear I will lose some low-end torque. Another thing I would like to test at the track and verify. Just playing around, you know :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:

Whoa. Does it have epoxy below the carb mounting pad where the stock Torker intakes neck down? And is it ported into the epoxy in the plenum area?
