From what I understand the bracket on the tranny where the shift rod connects to needs to be flipped since the floor shifter pushes and the column shifter pulls. Anybody have a picture of this part flipped both ways and what is the easiest way to do it? Thanks ...
wish i could help dan, but I used a cable activated shifter that included a bracket to bolt onto the c-4 linkage
Wonder if this would be helpful ... http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=145538&prmenbr=361
If you're using a factory floor-shifter, You have to swap the shift bracket with the correct one. I doubt you can simply "flip" the one that's already on there...
When I did the swap the valve body had to be pulled out in order to pull the lever out. There is A nut on the lever inside that has to come off. IF you want a pic of the factory bracket I will try and get you one.
So did you use the same one that was used for the column shift and just flip it or did you swap it with a different lever?
Yeah ... beginning to see that the column lever is quite a bit different ... looks like flipping it 180 would not help since it appears that it should really go only about 90. I'm thinking maybe a Mustang one would work, an original Maverick lever or possibly an aftermarket clamp on style that B&M or TCI sells ...
I don't see why a Mustang lever would not work, since they had C-4s and used the same design floor-shifters...
Somewhere I have a floor shift arm that I took out of a Granada. I'll try to find it today and get a pic of it.
Dan; when I changed mine over, I used a Mustang ('67) shifter, and I got the shifter arm and rod from the same car. The arm for the floor shift has a flat on it that the column shifters don't have. I may have one, and I will let you know if I can find it.
My floor-shift arm is from a 82 or so Mustang. Sticks out a bit far so I had to clearance the tunnel a hair for the other end of the shift lever, but it works. It was only hitting when in Park and Reverse, all other gears were fine.
