IF you have been following a couple other threads of mine, you recognize that I bought a fan from a Taurus, I think, mounted it in front of the radiator, but when wired backwards to push rather than pull, it sounded like an air boat from the swamps of Florida.

So, now that it is wired correctly, I have to figure out how to get it between the radiator and the water pump pulley.

It has a 2-3 inch deep shroud, that may need to be cut (maybe to a shallow square just bigger than the fan, then rubber gasket between it and radiator?). I was going to get input before cutting into this fine ($25) piece of engineering feat.

    Any suggestions before I cut?

Lots of lookers, no suggestions

A couple days of this and I will cut the shroud and MAKE the thing fit.

I would love to see some pics of others' cars with electric fans.

Nevermind. Somewhere in the midst of taking the fan back out and trying to fit it inside, I banged the electric motor, or something. Now it won't run. All wires are good, and connections, but the motor won't turn anymore.

Back to the junkyard with another 25-dollar bill...

This time, I will find something that is still on a car, and either find a pusher, or a puller with a narrower design. Any suggestions on which car(s) might have something that fits with minimal modifications?

I just ran into this the other day. I went to mount the fan/shroud combo, and it wouldn't fit in between the water pump snout. I "modified" the water pump by taking a cut-off wheel and trimming the stud on the front of the water pump even with the pulley. I now have plenty of clearance.

My problem was (WAS) that the fan/shroud combo was nearly 6" deep, I only had about 4" before I hit the water pump.

I am looking for another thinner fan now.

And it worked so well for a couple days...

Scooper; I had that problem when I tried to install an electric fan in my car. I had about 1/4" clearance to the pulley. I put it in and had no problem with hitting the fan motor, but it just did not do the job. I went to a stock 7 blade fan and a good shroud. Problem solved. Good luck. BTW, my computer at home is on the fritz. I will mail you the pics of the seat rails when I get it fixed....hopefully tomorrow. I have not forgotton you!!!!!

Sorry we won't get to meet you in person.

We will be stopping for just one afternoon, anyway, on our way through to a family reunion in PA.

You could get on from a newer Taurus/Sable that is a 2-speed with three wires coming out of it and it is thinner. when I did my son's, I put the fan off-center a little towards the driver's side and it (the motor) fit in between pulleys and belts. Older style like the one you had.
