Yeah, I tried to set if offside but the cowl was still too big. If it would have kept running, I would have shaved it down to fit.

How new on the Taurus/Sable (and thanks for throwing in the Mercury counterpart, that increases my chances of finding a car!)?

I have a Taurus 2 speed on mine. I trimmed it a little so it would fit real tight to the radiator and made my own mounts so it installs to the stock Mav radiator holes. Kind of looks a little ham & egg but it works really well. Run the low speed on a switch wired to battery (cools in pits) and high speed wired to a temp sensor in the radiator. If I remember right the low speed draws about 10 amps but spikes a little over 20. The high speed draws righ around 30 but spikes at 50. I run the low speed off a 40 amp relay and the high speed off of 2 30 amp relays in parallel. Space is real close - but the Taurus fan (I think was a 91?) is a little off set from the center - so the water pump is a tad nested into the fan motor.

Also - I know you said yours is a Taurus fan but it is a little different than the one I got. Mine has the pancake type motor and it is more square. I think it was from a 91 v6 wagon?

Thank you so much for the picture!!!

My fan motor sticks out about 3-4 inches more than yours, and that is why everyone else says they can get it to fit (even with mods) and I don't see any way I can get mine to.

Mine must be off a different year, or maybe another car.

I think I said (might have been a different thread) that it was not IN a car when I found it, but leaning against a Taurus, with no motor, and since it had a Ford number on it, I just assumed...

I gotta find one with that smaller motor.

Mine had only two wires, does that make it one-speed?

You might try a fan unit from a '96-98 Mustang GT. Pretty thin units. Or you could quit cheapskating this thing and buy an real aftermarket unit. Just a thought. :D

Have you seen pictures of my car!!! I am not putting a $300 fan on a $600 car. This is a beater, and needs junkyard parts :coco:

Maybe after I drop in 500 HP of decent motor, have a single color of paint (even if it is primer gray), and every part no longer leaks, I might start buying aftermarket parts.

Of course, I am only joking, halfway. I have lots of new parts, but can't see putting new parts on in places that will eventually have to be swapped out anyway. My current radiator will not be able to handle another 50-75HP before it has to be swapped, then new fan, etc.

It is the stock 74 radiator with the A/C. I think it is 3-core 20X19, or similar.

I just pulled it off a year ago and an old guy in town took it apart and "reamed" it.

I took it off again a few weeks ago, soaked the inside with 50/50 muriatic acid for 30 minutes. It ate off most of the white calcium buildup inside. It cooled much better afterwards.

A two wire fan will be a single speed. I pulled a chunck of the original harness when I got mine and spliced into the connector onto the motor. High speed I think is a 10 gauge wire. Low speed and ground are 14 gauge.

Your fan may be a Taurus, just a different year. Like I said I think mine was a 91 V6 wagon. You may be able to find a thread in the archive. I had a very similar thread going when I did my conversion a couple of years ago. Also - FordMuscle.com had a technical write up I remember reading.

I am real happy with my conversion. Was running it this afternoon and it was 92 and humid as all get out before it stormed. Fan cycled on and off just like it should. My opinion Taurus fan is a good fit for the 300hp and under crowd. I can still get some more out of mine by setting some foam around the shroud to force more air through the radiator. I will not be winning any best of shows with my junk - but that is not what it is all about for me.
