I started another project ... creating a factory looking steering wheel emblem for my Rim Blow Steering wheel. I currently just stuck one of my decals over the top of the factory Mustang Emblem but I wanted something a little nicer. The hole in wheel pad for the emblem is exactly 2 inches. I found some PVC conduit that was 2 inch outside diameter and cut a 1/4 inch slice of it off. I filled it half-way with epoxy and layed a piece of plastic on top. Then I used some more epoxy to affix a NOS Maverick Door panel medallion directly in the center. Once it is dry I will fill it with clear resin and let it harden and if all goes well should look factory. The last step will be to paint the trim ring with metallic paint to finish it off. Here are the pictures of a Mustang emblem, my decal currently on the center and my work in progress. I will let the background epoxy cure overnight and then fill it with the clear resin ...
Actually it's PC-7 ... very similar two part epoxy. I actually used it to patch all 44 side trim holes in my Yellow car ... it's been 9 months of temperature ranges between 20 degrees in the winter and well over 100 degrees while the car is sitting in the sun this summer and it's still holding with no issues. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=18966
looks Great How much does resin cost?and can you buy it localy or do you have to order it online? I have a Stallion cap that need repairing. Thanks
I bought the resin in a hobby store ... mix the two parts then let harden. Here is the emblem with the resin poured .... now I just have to let harden for 72 hours ....
Well ... I messed it up a little. Just got home from a car show and the emblem had set up nice. The box said heat make it harden faster so I put it in my Expedition that was sitting in the sun all day with the windows closed. Guess it was too hot. A couple of bubbles of resin broke to the surface on the tip of the left steerhorn.. Oh well .. the directions say when it is 100% hard any scratches or imperfections can be filled with more resin and it will not be noticable. So i'll sand down the bubbles in a couple of days and brush some resin on to fix it. Otherwise it is looking good ...
Where do you get decals like that? I've never seen the Comet/Mav style before this, are they available somewhere?
