Just for the sake of conversation, seeing as how the Maveick was such a success for Ford, Does anyone think they would ever do another Maverick Grabber? Maybe if we sent some emails expressing a great deal of interest in it? I know they do an SUV with the Maverick name for foreign markets but that doen't count. Who knows, I just thought it would rule if they re-issued the Grabber!

    Rock on,
    Josh

I dont think there is enough interest...so ford wouldnt make a profit.

As metallica would say "Sad But True"...

with ford trying to cut back now i doubt you'll see much from them unless it's got a mustang name on it.

I agree with everyone else, it's just not something that people would remember and want to immediately buy. It was popular at the time because it was one of Ford's first (if I've read correctly) answers for the economy car. It was something grandma or mom drove to the grocery store, not a muscle car as they've become nowadays. It did best because it was good on mileage for its time but many people still seem to remember it as the family car. It's only us newer generations that see it as a classic. Nowadays, like in the late 60s, muscle cars are coming back but mostly the tried and true muscles are what's on the market.

Of course I could be wrong, Wikipedia and the internet has steered me off course more than once. ;)

If they brought back the Maverick, it would probably be something similar to the Focus. Just a little POS FWD car. Anything more, and it would probably steal sales away from the Mustang, and you know Ford won't have that happening again.

Are we going to have to find a priest that will perform an exorcism on you to remove the evil Mopar spirits out from your dark depths?

I doubt they would do the Maverick justice. It took them 32 years to get the Mustang looking right.

I once talked to a Ford exec about reviving some old car name plates and I was told they were in the new car business not the old. They have to stay head of the competion. The Maverick was built to compete with VW's and other imports. I think they need another car like the Maverick. The Mustang is a retro succuss, the Mach 1, Shelby GT500! Cobra! What if they called the Focus A Maverick. There could be a Maverick MPG, SVT, Grabber, Stallion, Turbo! Even a wagon. I think the Focus ST with the "Street" option is close to a modern Grabber. GM has a Malibu SS whitch reminds me of a Nova SS

Not quite very close. I've got a 2000 Focus ZTS (ooh, "sporty") and I can guarantee that it's not a modern-day Maverick. It's the closest iteration in Ford's current lineup (not saying much,) but I'd need it to be RWD, and at LEAST have an optional V6.

Don't get me wrong -- I like my Focus. Quick, zippy, lots of room. But it has 4 doors unless you get the hatch, which is appallingly ugly, I think.

I'd prefer something with at LEAST a fastback. And again, RWD. Maybe AWD to keep northerners happy.

But I don't see the nameplate coming back right now. Ford is stuck on that "names that begin with the letter F" idea right now. Same with Mercury. And Mercury Maverick just doesn't have the same ring as Ford Maverick or Mercury Comet.
