Hey, new guy here! I was referred to this site by Seth aka. littleredtoy. The Drag car and story of Dan Bott intrigued me. I am in the process of doing a full restoration on Arlen Fadely’s S/M Maverick. The Car will be bought back to life as it was raced in 1977, when Arlen won the US nationals running B S/M. Although I have restored many cars prior, I have never had the opportunity to restore a Maverick until now. They are wonderful cars and have a great place in Drag Racing History…you as Maverick owners have allot to be proud of, and from what I see here, take allot of pride in your cars! Congratulations. Joe Spinelli
Welcome from Pittsburgh Pa! Joe Spinelli sounds familiar, How about a bio? Anxious to hear more on your restoration!
Welcome Joe. I'm glad to see your appreciation for the Mavericks as well. Good luck on the restoration and please keep us posted. (For reference: Arlen Fadley's Maverick (circa '77):
Glad to have you among us Joe. Keep us posted with the restoration progress. Post some pictures along the way. I love old racecars. Thanks for the great shot Rick. Man, I love those satin centerlines!
Welcome to the site, Joe. Joe has done some nice restoration work in the past. His most recent famous resto was on this car: Al Joniec's 1969 Boss 429 Drag Car. I had more pics of the car in Carlisle somewhere. Seth
Thank you, for the warm welcome! I’ve seen some really nice cars with a high degree of talent getting them together on this site. Everyone should be very proud. As I said before this will be the first Maverick that I have restored. Most of the cars in the past have been Big Block ‘69&’70 Mustangs, Motorcycles, a ’66 T Bird Conv., and vintage Arcade games. The Fadely Maverick started life as a 1975 “Body in White”, which means it was pulled off the assembly line less engine, trans…etc. From there it was shipped to Don Hardy Chassis in Texas. Hardy and his crew built the car’s chassis following the NHRA Super Modified rulebook. It went back to Detroit for Arlen to work his magic. Arlen settled on a BOSS 302 power plant and top loader 4 speed to power the car. The engine was a 331cid stroker with approximately 620 HP. With 5.67 gears the car was shifted at 9000rpm and redlined just under 10. Being the Super Stock/Drag Illustrated Magazine project car the car got its share of exposure. With it’s pearl orange paint job it was nicknamed the “Great Pumpkin” by the magazine writers. It went on setting many records and ultimately winning the US Nationals in 1977. The car is going through a nut & bolt restoration right now with as many NOS parts I can find. I’m sure I’ll have many questions and with probably need the lean on you guys for help. Again, thanks for the warm welcome! Joe
