I am interested in any 5 speed swap success stories. I am in the process of gathering up all the info and money to make the conversion myself and I need to know what all is involved. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you do a search you'll see we beat this to death. A bunch of us run T5s or Tremecs. There are different ways of attaching the tranny; special bell, adaptor plate. Different clutch mechanisms; z-bar, cable, hydraulic. Some needed to modify the crossmember, some didn't. Some needed to cut the trans tunnel, some didn't. Depends on what you wanna do, the year of your car, etc. If you have specific questions after reading all of the archived material, feel free to PM me.

I did not have to cut the tunnel but I did have to mod my crossmember. It has worked flawless for 2 years.

I am leaning towards a cable system. I have a 84 mustang with a 5 speed and I am going to use the stang as a model of what I want to do to the maverick.

Some just let the rear of the tranny hang lower without regard for the driveshaft/pinion angle.

I only had to cut a piece out for the cross brace, but I still need to re-support it, and do sfcs, and I had to hack the crap out of the shifter hole, (was column shift auto)

I had to modify my tunnel. I wonder what the differences are. Check post #79 on this thread:

You said you used a cobra R which I think is a tremec trans. If so it is wider than a T5 trans.

I have a regular T5 and the Cobra one and externally they are identical. I think Barry might have answered the question. I know it was awfully close. With everything bolted up, it was less than 1/2" from bolting right up.

The cobra trans and the T5 are externally the same but the "R" trans is a tremec. The cobra T5 is the one I have as well from Summit.:thumbs2:

    just another success story

i to have a t-5 with cable (that was alittle tricky) minor alterations to tunnel and crossmember, pinion angle was corrected when i installed the 8.8. very well worth the swap. p.s there is some good pics of my altered clutch box using fox body parts under 70maverickgurl (same car) good luck jeff.

I too used a cable setup. I tried make it as similar to the mustangs setup.Using the maverick manual pedals, I used a cable, the quadrant, and firewall adjuster. I also had to modify the tunnel. Do you have a transmission already? I just happen to be selling my spare at the moment?

I used a cable setup from Mustang Steve, on eBay. Very good setup, and fairly easy to install, though you do have to do some welding on the pedal assy. One tip, use a firewall adjuster from Ford Motorsport, instead of his straight through. Gives you some more adjustment. Good luck!
