Unhappy Piolet Bearing skrewup

ok now ive realy skrewed up, turns out the piolet bearing was already completly destroyed...not a trace of it and the piece i was grinding\chissling\drilling\ destroying was actualy the crankshaft....a small steel sleeve in the old 69 moter that when i looked at the 72 and 73 they both had the same sleeve, but they were both automatics...have i completly skrewed myself? do i need to switch the 200 and the 170s crank before i even put the moter back in or might it still run

3Mav,

I've been following your posts on this subject and I don't know whether to laugh or cry for you!

Man! That light at the end of the tunnel turned out to be a train headed your way didn't it?

I feels bad for ya. I wish I could help you, but "Lawdy, I don't know NUTTIN' bout birfin' no babies!' (the older guys will get that one).

Chin up Buddy, someone will help ('wish I could).

And, lastly, "DO NOT GO INTO THE LIGHT!"

Rick
p.s. I'd postpone that trip to Vegas too!

OK, this takes me back to all the posts you've made on this and other boards about how hard Fords are to work on and how a cheby is much easier......looks like it's been operator error all along.....I wonder if they offer basic mechanic classes at any of your local Tech. schools?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Actualy i have taken basic machanical classes, even done the standard to auto swap and had to remove the piolet bearing from a 300 i-6...this "steel sleeve" looked like the piolet bearing, the trans in it was a 3 speed, and there was nothing in there but this ring that looked like the piolet bearing from the 300 i-6...and it didnt help that everyone around me was telling me that it was the piolet bearing....and you dont skrew up commetgt...ever?...i think im doing prety good, one skrew up on a old ass car that has no books reprinted for it and very sketchy information available on it...in fact all the information ive been able to find in txt about this car has been on this and about 4 other webpages i try to keep up on...which has turned out to be enormusly helpful to a chevy boy trying his luck with a ford....

Cool

I must say I respect your honesty. With that in mind, at this point I would say you might have caused some damage to the crank. All depends on how much you carved out of it. Myself, who has made plenty of mistakes and learned from most of them, I would say why not try to finish the job you are doing and just see how it ends up working. Sometimes stuff like what has happened to you can be very forgiving. The little voice in my head ( well one of um ) says you could have some balance problem if you hacked the crank up too much. Good luck to ya, and welcome to life 102 Old Cars and How they can drive us nuts at times!

Smile Got your engine right here!

ThreeMav,

Got $50? Come and get this 250 Inline-6 out of my garage! I have an engine hoist and will gladly plop it into the back of your truck!

I rebuilt this engine 3 years ago and its been a great runner, but I wanted more so I plopped a 302 into "Pegasus". The I-6 was running great when I pulled it (has about 4000 miles on it), has all hoses, carb, mounts, everything. Its been sitting on my garage floor ever since I pulled it. If you want it, its YOURS!

Heck, bring a few parts over while your at it and I'll probably sandblast & powdercoat the suckers while we talk Mavericks!

Balls in your court!
Tracy

Be careful of what you offer........

Trace, be careful of what you offer........

There are guys out there (like me) who willl wear their welcome out. Not intended for you 3Mav. That IS a nice engine that would serve a fellow Mav man like yourself well, especially in this case.

Having said that, with all the cool stuff you have in your garage Trace, -- Who are you kidding!!? You just NEED the room for more cool stuff like the POWDER COATING you've perfected !!!! (and, BTW, "Thanks Again").

3Mav, Take his motor, PLEASE!! (and, Yes, that IS great deal even if you have to crate it to your home).

Trace, I went to Harper Freight Tools today for the first time (290 and Jones Rd.). They're gonna have to re-stock after I left. I bought damn near everything they had!! (ask me about the "new - neW - NEW and improved" sand blaster!!!! "Yes", I bought the pressure balanced virgin. I'll let you know how she works out ASAPractial. It was a $79.00 gamble....either buy another air reservoir for about the same price or try their advertised snake oil .~~~SSSSsssss!!!!~~~

Are you up to this weekend for some more sand-blasting / powder coating, and bs?? Let me know (in the mean-time, I'll ask your 'powder' supplier if they can match Ford's 1990, color code "E3" or not. I'll check it out and let you know - unless you have an inside source, of course, of course..).

See ya soon,

Rick
