    ya its normal

aparently the nozzle on "back in the day" gas pumps was shapped a little diffrently and mavericks were designed around those

    same issue

I have had the same problem. For me, it seems if i hold the gas nozzle close to the top left side of the filler neck and don't push all the way in it won't splash back. But I still have to stand and hold it there and usually can't "go full speed" on the gas trigger. Seems to be the sharp turn down in the filler neck combined with the way the nozzle is long. Plus no little "trap door" like on newer cars to keep the splash inside.

Try an 06 mustang. it's best if you turn the nozzle upside down. If you don't, most times you get 5 - 10 cents ata time. I was told Ford fixed that problem after the 06 model...

Just the way the filler neck was designed, it was designed for the older style pumps.

Yes. And it pisses me off to no end. It's most often triggered by waxing your car.

Sometimes, I find that if I hold it sideways, in a position similar to the one employed while discharging a gat into some punk buster trying to sling on your block, it's more effective.

Would you like Regular or High Test sir ???

Oh those were the days, when you knew the people that worked at your local "filling station"

"Tubby" was the guys name at our local filling station when we used to go out on Friday nights with my grandparents and we would stop and "fill her up" and Tubby would ask Check yer oil?? he would also clean the windshield and pump the gas. Pop always made sure Tubby pumped that extra 20 cents worth of gas for the "cash price discount"

I put the nozzle in upside down and off to one side to either 10 or 2 o'clock. Seems to work fine.

I just leave the key in the ignition on ON, and watch the gauge through the back window. When it gets close to FULL, I pull the nozzle out so only the tip is in and listen for it to start gurgling. Then stop. VOILA--full tank.

Of course it usually spills out around the cap as soon as I take off, so I usually don't fill it past when I see FULL on my gauge.

There has got to be a way to fix this.

I know we can figure this out.

What's the big difference in the deign? Is it the angle of the filler tube? What if one were to replace that tube with a rubber one, with a bend in it kind of like an upper radiator hose, so instead of turning abruptly downward, it's more gradual?
